When is the last time a team has played consecutive double-headers?

Personally, I am shocked that the game has been rescheduled - the odds of it mattering are extremely slim.

The CBA forbids scheduled doubleheaders on consecutive days but doubleheaders were not uncommon back in the days. I don't know which team had the most recent but here are some interesting facts about doubleheaders:

From July 28 to August 17 (a 21 day span) the 1901 Washington Senators played 9 doubleheaders.

From July 27 to August 5 (a span of 10 days) the 1909 Washington Senators played 8 doubleheaders with only July 1 and 2 as off days in between.

In 1911 the Cincinnati Reds and St Louis Cardinals played doubleheaders in 4 consecutive days (May 29-June1).

From September 4 to September 15 (a span of 12 days) the 1928 Boston Braves played 9 doubleheaders (2 of those days were on the road) with only days off on the 6th, 9th and 12th. And if you extend it back to August 24th of the same year all the way to the 24th of September they played an additional 8 doubleheaders for a total of 17 doubleheaders in a 32 day span.

The most doubleheaders played in the NL in the same season belongs to the 1943 Philadelphia Phillies who played 43 doubleheaders. The Chicago White Sox that same season played in 44 doubleheaders.

But I know it's been done recently I just can't recall who it was that did it. I want to say the yankees were involved but my mind fails me.  :smh:

So, I'm guessing we see the AAA guys for the day games tomorrow and Friday and the regs in the evening.

Any word on what the pitching will look like?

What I would like to see both games is (a) nobody plays both games in the same day and (b) a mix of vets and kids in both lineups.

Examples:

Day 1:

Rendon 3B
Cabrera 2B
Zimmerman LF
Harper RF
Moore 1B
Taylor CF
Lobaton C
Florimon SS (Is he here yet?)

Night 1:

Span CF
Frandsen 3B
Werth RF
LaRoche 1B
Desmond SS
Ramos C
Souza LF
Espinosa 2B

Day 2:

Rendon 3B
Cabrera 2B
Zimmerman LF
Harper CF
Moore 1B
Schierholtz RF
Leon C
Florimon SS

Night 2:

Span CF
Frandsen 3B
Werth RF
LaRoche 1B
Desmond SS
Ramos C
Hairston LF
Espinosa 2B

Everyone plays, nobody wears out.

im not criticizing, just dont really understand - why not play all the AAA(A) guys in one game and all the regulars in another? maximizing your chance of winning one game instead of going for two maybe-wins in two games is likely better yeah?

Remember the day game in Florida. People were upset that so many people rested. It was fine.

The top half of this order is tight and the lineup is a defensive powerhouse for the most part. This is a time we get to see different guys. It's fun!

maybe Matt feels our mixed squads over 4 games against whatever Terry decides to do, gives us the highest chance of the most wins...or at least has some regulars in there, and regulars on the bench for pinch hit if its critical for all 4 games.

may also be considering the mentality of the pitcher on the mound, not wanting them to feel like any one game is a punt

this looks an awful lot like our possible 2016 lineup (shift Zimm to 1st with Harper/Taylor/Werth in the OF, and Rendon at 3rd)

You think Taylor will leapfrog Souza?

Went out to hit some golf balls.   Got home, flipped on MASN and they have Los Angelos' Blos on the pre-game.     That simply sucks.

I am guessing the pitcher tonight is not left handed? otherwise that should have been Espi's game
