eh, Gio wasn't a killer

You must've been taking a leak when Gio botched the grounder that should've been an easy double play, got in Rendon's way when he tried to field the bunt, and walked in a run on 4 pitches.

Williams named Sporting News NL MOY

Ridiculous.  He is clearly one of the weakest links on this team.

Why would he deserve to be MOY for the regular season? This team was expected to be good. It was good. How do you draw the conclusion that it had the best manager?

I think the main reason is that there currently are no good managers in the NL. Who would you have given it to?

Mark Zuckerman @ZuckermanCSN
Sporting News vote tally: Williams 4, Matheny 2, Redmond 1. So ... there wasn't exactly full participation by NL managers on this.

This isn't the official award, that's voted on by the BBWAA.

lots of injuries.  Most of the key offensive pieces missed large periods of time.

Namely, Games 1 through 4 of the NLDS.

he certainly would have a case, given he got that team to the playoffs without Cain & Pagan, and with Romo imploding as closer, not to mention Lincecum not contributing much.  I think Vogelsong missed a good chunk of time too.

Don't get me wrong - Detwiler would have been a great choice.  But ultimately the bullpen gave up 8 quality innings.  It was St. Roark that finally blinked.  Not sure why he doesn't get the hate that others get.  But yeah, 1 run, 9 hits, 18 innings.  Those aren't championship caliber team numbers.

Because he gave up a run, we hate him?

I certainly don't.  I think the pitching as a whole was fantastic.  I'm just saying that there is a tendency on WNFF to crucify people based on such things.  I was expressing surprise that I hadn't seen one person bash him.

fielding, not pitching, but yes, that hurt and is part of his performance. He settled down well, and we were able to come back to tie.  It was a low scoring, one run game when he left, unless I was taking hallucinogens while I was taking that leak.

Need more information.   Was the misspelling of his name intended to allow discrete avoidance of direct criticism of Roark, or merely a casual inattention to detail?

I said Roark(e) is a piece of crap. Does that sound like someone who is being serious.

Sounds like we should jump on him before Atlanta can, then.

One of the best managers in baseball is now on the open market, and yet Rizzo will stick with that geek Matt Williams.  I'm sickened, brothers.

What did Davey call Maddon? A "weird wuss?"

That's about right.
