Comment From Will:
I haven’t seen any scouting reports about Erick Fedde this season, but his numbers look really good. Does he still look like a potential #4 now that he’s back and healthy?

Kiley McDaniel: Talked to a scout that saw him recently and sounds like the stuff is all the way back. Will be moving up the list. #2/3 upside.

People think the Mets have good young pitching now.  Wait until 2018 when the Nats have a rotation of Giolito, Ross, Scherzer, Fedde, and Lopez.

Promoted to Hagerstown and starting tonight.  4.1 IP 5 H 6 ER 2 BB 3 Ks.  Typical of a transitional start, actually was doing alright until the fifth when he allowed one run, was pulled, and then the bullpen allowed all of the inherited baserunners to score

2/12/15 article profiling Fedde, his recovery from TJ, and expectations.  Aiming for 25 starts, no level specified.

Quote
The Nationals showed their belief in Fedde by inking him to a $2.5 million signing bonus in July 2014 and immediately set to work using essentially what has become their Tommy John rehab handbook, which included sending their latest prized prospect to the warmer climes of Florida.

...

Per the Nationals' plan, Fedde didn't last longer than five innings in his eight starts with Auburn or in his six starts that followed after a promotion to Class A Hagerstown on Aug. 11. He finished with a 3.38 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, 59 strikeouts and 16 walks in 64 innings. Those solid numbers aside, both Fedde and the Nationals were most pleased with the fact that the right-hander hadn't missed a start in his first two-and-a-half months as a pro. Come instructs, the focus turned away from maintaining health and building a future Major Leaguer, starting with work on sharpening Fedde's command and tightening his slider.

"He's definitely a potential big league starter," Menhart said. "There's quite a few things Erick does well, and one of them is competitiveness. He strides for perfection, and you can tell it bothers him when he's not perfect. I would never try to change that. He's an extremely coachable kid in that way."

Isn't this what people hate about Strasburg?

If he has 25 starts this season, some of them will be in AA. Good to hear.

I thought we hated that he is mentally weak and gets completely jolted by any minor thing that doesn't go his way

Nah, with Strasburg, we were just disappointed that he could not turn water into wine after the middle of the 7th inning.

is it realistic to think that Fedde could crack the rotation in 2017?  By then he'll be two years removed from TJ, and 24 years old.

He'd have to dominate this year, move up to AA (which I think he could, but I wouldn't expect it), and could be a mid-season guy in 2017. He still has a lot to show...

Eh, unknown right now. Need to see how he does.

But, frankly, we wouldn't have him for the whole season. I gotta think he'd be on strict innings limit. He's never gone past 100 innings. Even if he cracked that this year, in 2017, he'd probably be capped at about a 150 innings. That puts him in to August if he starts the season with the MLB club.

I'd say his cap this season would be somewhere between 120-150 IP. Stras went from 44.1 to 159.1 the next year (183 the following). Fedde having college IPs makes his case a little different than Giolito, IMO. They've been timid with Little Gio, but Fedde would probably be pushed a little more.

Which would mean somewhere closer to 180 IPs in 2017. Way too early to really tell.

Sounds good! http://natsgm.com/2016/04/18/scouting-erick-fedde/

yeah it does, if he has 3 major league pitches, and can work on that change, could have a damn good pitcher here

Saw Fedde yesterday.  Looked good but can't say that he impressed me as much as Lopez when I saw him around the same time last year.  Of course he does not throw as hard.

Good stuff and struck out 9 in 5.2 innings.  But walked four; walked the leadoff hitter to start the game.  Next batter followed with a home run.  Settled down after that.  Only two hits after that were weak singles; the latter scored after he left.  He actually seemed to have decent control and most pitches were around the plate--umpire did not give him any breaks.

Do you know by any chance what he was throwing at? Was he just working on a certain pitch?

I think low 90s but that is a guess.  Seemed he was mixing things up as I saw a few breaking balls.  I was sitting next to all the scouts but didn't ask.  They were all too busy spitting tobacco juice into their coke cans.

To be honest the pitcher for Lynchburg was more impressive.  Justin Merryweather.  Came in with no earned runs in 11 innings and added 6 more innings to that.

Lasted 0.2 innings, lit up like a Christmas tree. 6 runs.
