Interesting story about a 52 year old SEAL, Jimmy Hatch, starting Yale as a freshman this past fall.

Belated Happy Birthday to the Marines and a thank you to the veterans among WNFF.

I thought about mentioning the Bergdahl angle, but I know how a discussion of that sack of scat will devolve.

Isle of Mann TT has been cancelled. The Manx GP is in doubt.

Maps released for tomorrow's fly-over by the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds:

https://wtop.com/local/2020/05/blue-angels-and-thunderbirds-to-soar-above-dc-baltimore-in-tribute-to-essential-workers/

Saw them but not as closely as planned.  Seems that, in the Arlington area, the route was a little north of the route on the diagram.  Still very cool.

We're heading down to Arlington Cemetery in a little while. Glad the President has already come and gone.

They found the USS Nevada off of Pearl Harbor.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/history/2020/05/25/uss-nevada-wreck-discovered-pearl-harbor/

Only battleship to get underway during the attack, raised and retrofitted with guns from the Arizona and Oklahoma, participate in the D-Day,  Iwo Jima, and Okinawa landings, didn't sink when hit with an A-bomb at Bikini, finally sunk after 4+ days of bombardment by the Navy 2 years later (she was radioactive at the time).

Took over an hour to go from Washington Boulevard up Route 110 to Memorial Avenue (the road that leads into Arlington Cemetery), but once we made the left turn it was very quick, and the columbarium where my father is was quiet and peaceful. The marker with his name was in place—they said 90 days, but it was just over a month. I’ve been to Arlington quite a few times over the years, but seeing an immediate family member's name memorialized there is very solemn and humbling. I'm glad we went, though in future years we may take the Metro and walk in to avoid the traffic.

Small world: One of my father's law school classmates and work colleagues is around the other side of the same wall. He sold me my first car in 1989.

Very happy that you have your father so near to you...and that he is forever resting in a truly wonderful place...

it was nice to see the national effort to honor the fallen at 3 PM this afternoon.  Scouts were encouraged to go out in uniform and salute the flag.  We were on the VT campus for a walk around this afternoon and they played Taps from the top of the War Memorial Chapel at 3 PM as well.

Part of the visit was a visit to this memorial at my old high school. It’s still mind boggling to me that we lost 27 in Vietnam from just our one school.  A public high school in Philly also has the dubious record for deaths at one school:  64.   As you might expect Edison high school was basically all black.

The Vietnam Veterans ran a campaign to raise money to place roses at the Wall on Father's Day. There is one from us for my Cousin Butch (red for KIA), and another for everyone else on the Wall (red tipped white) in this sea of roses.

Thank you Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund...

The Navy announces it is building a new museum in the navy yard area. Presumably it will be off-base

I wonder what this guy's real story is if they sent SEAL team 6 to rescue him. He has to be more than a farmer.
