I'm gonna take another shot at doin' Rollin' Thunder this year.  Since they announced that this will be the last year, it's not like I can forego this opportunity, having never been...

It's going to be a challenge with Memorial Bridge being only about 1/3 open.  Indian file I guess.  But bravo, I'll come watch.

I was just lookin' at a map.    :)     I'm thinking about catchin' the subway to Rosslyn, walk to ANC, visit a few friends and then walk to the Pentagon North Lot.     I wanna be there when they leave the lot.    After that, I'll walk to the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial and then catch the subway home.    I was tellin' my neighbor I think I've either ridden or observed (usually the lot/marina or Memorial Bridge) all of 'em.

Thanks for the heads up.  I'll plan to stay with family in Fairfax on Sunday night, so not like I have to hele home...

I'll get there late, maybe noonish, and likely be one of the last ones out...I'll ping you...  ;)

Sounds like a plan.    Hope I remember my phone  ...  or to turn it on.    :)     Gettin' there that late, they may put you in the overflow lot (South?)  nearest Crystal City.   Since this may be the last big DC event, there will probably be more bikes than usual.

I think the subway opens at 8 AM.    Will hit WFC for the Orange Line in.    ETA Arlington Cemetery around 9 ish.    That should give me plenty of time to visit and still make the ride out.

Good to know...I'll take what they give me...

Watched a clip of bikes leaving Columbia, MO with police escort and figured if they can ride 1,000 miles, I can surely do 100...

Probably won't take them as long to get there from MO as you from Richmond.

OT   I had a wedding invitation for Sunday at 2 PM in Central Loudoun.     I sent my regrets.    No way I could be at Rolling Thunder and still make it to the wedding on time.    I figure it's more disrespectful to be late than to not go, with regrets.     My neighbor sez, "Have fun at Rolling Thunder."      They still don't get it.

Depends why you're there.    No doubt you have laughs and drink a few beers.     Tell lies.   But every once in a while the incredibleness of it all seeps in.

I hear ya.  It seems like it can be both - a memory of those who gave their life in our nation's defense and an opportunity to see people who have the same desire to share that memory.

Have a Meaningful Rolling Thunder sounds... pretentious. But it's probably the right phrase.

If Mit, VaRK, or anyone wants to stop by CCSP, a lot of vets hang out there the whole weekend.  23rd street usually is packed with motorcycles (damn, I can't use the word "bike" for those things).

Be careful.    The fools are in full force.    Headin' over to the hotel this morning to help set up tents for Rolling Thunder.    Hadn't ridden since I got the bike inspected last month.    Ridin' along, mindin' my business, payin' attention and I see a car full stop at the next intersection.    Turn signal on and he's waitin' to make a left.   I got to within 10 yards and he cut in front of me.    I had t-bone in my eyes.    Rear locked and I started slidin'.   Had enough sense to release the rear brake before I high sided.    Got control and the guy looks at me (as he continues on) with the fear of God in his eyes and his hands in the "sorry" gesture.    Didn't even stop.    Old riding buddy's son happened to be behind me.     He stopped to check me out.    The other driver should be thankful I didn't get the bike turned around quick enough to locate him in an industrial park.
