I've been to a lot of Rolling Thunders but Sunday was the first time I recall seeing officers (police on their vests) in teams in tactical gear.   They had M-16s (whatever they call 'em now) at the ready position.    It was on the overpass of Washington BLVD in the top picture of VaRK's picture post.

Sign of the times...it was also odd seeing London Police walking the streets with automatic H&K MP-5's at the ready, though we did see that back in 2007 as well...

To acquire the Virginia Veterans ID, you can use snail mail, fax or visit a DMV service center.    I went to the local DMV service center.   What could possibly go wrong?

BTW   Lots of Nats' gear sighted.

Found my separation orders while lookin' for my DD214.    Two of the guys included in the order were with me from Basic to ETS.     Searched the interwebz and found they both passed away.

12 officers and 6 enlisted men.   That's about right.    :)

Never did a pointy hat.    That was 1st Platoon back in the day.   In fact, they were a separate specialty "squad".    They also do the multi-service things you see at Nats' Park, etc. in class "A"s.

BTW, the pointy hat is a tri-corner.    :)

Never made it to the southern campaign.   However, I visited the Hermitage several times.

I've read his resignation note/letter.    He was takin' the fall if it failed.

EDIT:    Haven't read my copy of Stephen Ambrose's "D-Day  ... " in a long time.      Went upstairs and grabbed it off the shelf.    It's my next project.    Gotta put Gettysburg on hold for now.    Still have a month for that one.   :)

I had planned on puttin' it out but have had it out ('til dusk) since Orlando.    She'll be wavin' in the morning.

I'm old school.    I bring her in at night even if lit.    Remember when they'd play "To the Colors" at dusk on base.    Everybody would stop what they were doin' and salute.   Hell, traffic stopped.

I have neighbors who leave the flag out all the time  ...  any kind of weather, etc.    Drives me crazy but the missus keeps me on lock down.   :P
