Could be a shift in thinking for our future middle infield. If Difo can continue to hit at AA, with his age and status as already being on the 40 man, he may be the rookie to make the club next year. Could see Difo at 2nd and Escobar at SS, and Turner getting more experience in the minors.

Nice to have some options.

I've been saying all along Turner has a higher ceiling, but Difo is ready sooner.

Difo 3-for-4 tonight with an RBI. Renda 1 for 5 and also an RBI. Goodwin not so good.

I think they are higher on Renda long term than Difo

That could be the case. Well see how it plays out. With the promotion to AA and the fact that he's already on the 40 man,  he could get a taste this year if the need arises.

Turner is supposed to be on the fast track so he could be ready next year.  You would have to think that that was his biggest appeal in a trade from Rizzo's perspective with Desi's decline and impending free agency.

If God forbid something happened to Escobar or Espinosa tomorrow, who would you call up for 15 days?  I'd say Difo at this point, after the spring he had.

I mean, I'd play Uggla, but I'd call up Difo.

Well that's a non-question since Turner won't be in our organization for another month.

Also calling up Difo would be really bad because you would rather he get every day ABs while he's developing.  If you call him up it should be with the intent to start him.

Fine in a month. And no I don't agree. He'd be on emergency injury reserve for a couple weeks. Unless there is someone in AAA (Dykstra?) who could do that.

Ian Stewart could come up as a backup infielder.  If Espinosa went down, Escobar could slide to 2B, the position we signed him to play.

If he thrives, he makes for good trade bait with Turner on the way.

But he won't, because he's being called up to ride the bench behind Espinosa, Escobar, Desmond, and Zimmerman. This makes no sense.

+1. If I didn't know better I'd wonder if there was a trade in the works, but I can't imagine that's the case. I don't know why you bring him up to pinch hit at this point in the season.

it would make more sense if we were trading Moore.

Uggla (IF) vs T.Mo (OF), Michael A.(OF), and Clint Robinson(OF) according to the depth chart.

so a Difo/Turner infield in 2016 won't be happening?

My guess is: Difo / Turner at AAA in 2016, after D / T at Harrisburg for the rest of this season. Espinosa / Escobar in 2016.

Definitely some decisions to be made. Difo and Turner may not need another year and a half of development in the minors. If either can outperform Espinosa or Escobar, they will play imo. If Espinosa can continue to play well, he might be a trade candidate on the off season.

It's possible we hand the job to Espinosa and Escobar but I doubt both are starting next year. I think we'll try to get one of the kids in the lineup somehow.
