The lead remains at six for another day, with the Nationals defeating the Pirates 5-4 and the Braves beating Oakland 7-2.

Jason Hammel is freaking trash when he's not facing the Nats.

Ironically, he'd be a perfect fit in Atlanta.

Disappointed in the A's. But I really want to believe they'll win that series in Atlanta. Miami keeps going hot and cold.

But as popular clichés go about how you can't win your division in August, but you can sure lose it. The Nats seem to be doing the right thing by focusing on the current opponent and next game. Thankfully with Werth out, Harper and Adam are getting it done with the RBIs.

I remember the Nats not playing particularly well in September of 2012.  They put the division away in August, but held on in September.  That September included a sweep by the Braves, Strasburg's debacle against the Marlins after which he was shut down, Clip blowing a bunch of saves and basically losing his closer role, and the team backing into the division crown by losing to the Phillies.

They went 13-12 in their final 25 games.

Compared to the rest of the season, that wasn't good.

I was trying to make that point. Counting the playoffs they went .500 in their final 30.

Are the Braves going to sweep the best team in baseball?

And Lester for the A's.  Hopefully Mr. Fister takes care of business.

The A's aren't the best team in baseball right now (unfortunately).  They are tied for first in their division right now so they are staring down a play-in game against King Felix or Shields from KC or Sherzer/Price from Detroit.  For their sake they need a win in the biggest way on Sunday.

Yep, the Os could still catch the Yankees and Blue Jays.
