It's such a funny trade...almost like Dombrowski asked for different guys and Rizzo slowly talked him out of them one by one.

Like he originally asked for Espinosa, Clippard and Cole/Giolito and Rizzo gave him the homeless man's version of each piece.

I haven't gone through all these posts so maybe it's been mentioned, but Rizzo said no when the Tigers asked for Taylor Jordan.

Who were some of those other players Rizzo wouldn't budge on?

I know Detwiler was one of them.

From ESPN: http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/79568/top-stats-to-know-fister-unrewarded-solid

Fister is very tough to steal bases against. Over the last four seasons, opponents are 16 for 30 in stealing bases with him on the mound.

Fister had the fifth-lowest rate of steals allowed per 9 innings (0.2) among the 100 pitchers who have pitched the most innings in that span.

Did I mention Nats have 3 of top 10 era+ starters of last 3 years? (Not Strasburg).
This gonna be crazy...

Unreal.  Dombrowski hit the Wild Turkey a bit too hard before this one.

Great job Rizzo!

Doug Fister bested all current Nationals SP in wins above replacement last season (4.1) - Zimmermann (3.7), Strasburg (3.1), Gonzalez (3.0)

the speculations in this thread prior to the trade details being revealed are mind-blowing.  the first 3 or 4 pages, are speculations on any combination of Rendon, Werth, and Span.

Yeah I read that and realized how irrational baseball fans can be when valuing their own players.  Fister was undoubtedly worth more than they got for him.  But giving up Werth would have clearly been an overpay, we have no one to replace Span so that would be questionable and giving up Rendon would have likely indicated we had a deal in place with Cano, itself unlikely.  Realistically, the Nats giving up any of those pieces would have been very unlikely though I wouldn't have been terribly upset if Rendon had been in this deal and I think it would have been more balanced that way.  Still not complaining though ;)

I've not read any threads or comments on this yet but I am amazed and disgusted.

Fister was an absolute steal for the Tigers out of Seattle and now they let him go for three almost worthless pieces.  DD better know what he is doing, though I really doubt it at this point.  It is almost like he is trading to shore up the AAA team.  WTF.  Not happy at this point for the Tigers.   freak!

Funny.  Read my recent comment.  No good for anyone but Nats fans.

So, to clarify, this has sped up your conversion to full-time Nats fandom? :P
