Disagree, Espinosa seemed to suck the life out of this team when he played last year, I was hoping he'd be traded before the new season but that seems unlikely now.

He sucked the life out of all of us when he played last year.

the Tigers are a loser franchise i'd be pissed if i was a fan of theirs, the way they are shedding salary in a window where they could win

Kinsler for fielder might be a positive for them.  Not this trade though.

Harper and Werth going on the shelf and LaRoche sucking sucked more life out of the team than Espinosa did.
True, maybe I've developed an irrational dislike for Espinosa.

That is a STEAL. Unless the Tigers know something we don't, this is a huge win for Rizzo. Trading spare parts for what will be the best number 4 starter in baseball. Unbelievable.

Once upon a time Lopez, Kearns, Morgan, and Milledge were all steals.

are they just shedding salary as fast as possible to make a free agent signing- I can't think of another reason for this trade from the tigers side

I'm with ya.   The other guys mentioned disappointed   ...   Espinosa pure buzz killer.

Fister isn't a prospect, he's a legitimate Major League starter. This is like adding a JZim or Gio.

Was also thinking this. Switch-hitter(?) with real power, though not Espinosa's defense.

Man I'm so pumped. I will miss Lombo though. Columbia represent!

I do think it kinda of makes sense to keep Espy on as a utility guy though. His potential dwarfs Lombo's. Even when he was his absolute worst as a hitter, he's much better defensively at SS and 2B and a better base runner. And now and then he can run into one. I don't hate that as a bench guy.

Definitely still need a LOOGY and another decent bench hitter. Get an upgrade to the starting lineup and you really hit the home run though...

He didn't have a breaking ball (yet). Without it, we saw what happened the longer he stuck around.

I hope this means Corey Brown gets a shot to be one of the lefty bench bats.

No, a hypothetical Espinosa at .180 or whatever is still better than a .250 Lombo with no defense, speed or power.

(1) Espinosa's only fielding advantage over Lombo is a stronger arm. Not a big deal unless he plays SS. Since Espinosa can't hit, he amounts to a late-inning fielding replacement for Rendon. If Rendon moves to 3B and RZim to 1B, then there's is a hole at 2B. (I don't believe Cano will sign with the Nats)

(2) The Nats lacked lefty pitching last season, so packing off Ray won't help. Krol? Cedeno seemed better toward the end of the season. Still short on lefties. Maybe Rizzo will sign a couple?
