did this open 2 spots on the 40 man roster?

Edit.  1 new spot...2-1 (doh!)

I wouldn't count on that, Detwiler was a ten game winner. LOOGY's can be found on the scrap heap.

But good bullpen guys cannot. We actually have some decent starting depth now.

What would it take to get David Price and not give up Strasburg, Harper or Rendon?

@DCameronFG 2m

Pretty much everyone I talk to agrees that Texas gave up more for two months of Garza than WAS gave up for two years of Fister.

Only downside I can think of is this incrementally increases the odds we see Espinsoa next year

That is a STEAL. Unless the Tigers know something we don't, this is a huge win for Rizzo. Trading spare parts for what will be the best number 4 starter in baseball. Unbelievable.

A season of Espinosa is >>>>>>>>>>>> than the best season of Lombo.

WTF, a barely serviceable utility infielder, a crappy reliever and a middling prospect for a guy who put up 4.6 WAR last season? unless there are serious medical issues we're missing, wtf were the tigers thinking?

only because Espinosa didn't have enough time in the majors to rack up the negative WAR last year

Tim Kurkjian ‏@Kurkjian_ESPN  1m
The Tigers cleared money, opened a rotation spot for Drew Smyly and got a LH reliever (Ian Krol). And Steve Lombardozzi is very useful

 :hysterical:  just stop tim.

No, a hypothetical Espinosa at .180 or whatever is still better than a .250 Lombo with no defense, speed or power.
