Span was following the coaches direction. Play was behind him and he probably didn't know what was going on in the field.
Yes. It was a very close play so he felt he would be able to make it. I don't mind the decision. It forced the Braves to execute and they did.
I mind because Roark is pitching and he needs all the support he can get and this team is always on the verge of losing to the Braves. If there were 7 or 8 more runs in this team, that run doesn't matter but there aren't. We'll be lucky to score two more runs.
