Chapman pitches for the fourth straight day and retires Puig - AGon - Hanley on 3 Ks throwing his heater 100-102 MPH.

Why can't we have a closer like Chapman or Kimbrel? How nice would that be seriously??

for the same Reason the Reds can't have Harper or Strasburg, there aren't very many of those kinds of players.

Closers are the most overrated players in baseball. The key is to have several guys in the pen who are capable of doing it instead of giving a Rafael Soriano contract to someone. Situations like St. Louis' with Edward Mujica and Boston with Koji Uehara where some random reliever takes over as the closer and does well happen all the time in the MLB. (Casey Janssen with Toronto last year, Fernando Rodney for Tampa last year, Kyle Farnsworth for Tampa the previous year, etc.)

Nats didn't play yesterday, so today is a good day to note:

Setember 5, 1959, Nats beat the BoSox 14 - 2 at Griffith Stadium for Camilo Pascual's 14th win. See http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/WS1/WS1195909050.shtml
for an account of the game, most notable for the 10-run bottom 3rd, which itself was notable because Washington's Jim Lemon hit two home runs in that inning: a two run drive to "deep CF" and a grand slam to "deep LF". Lemon had seven RBIs in the game.

Announced attendance was 25,118 - actually did sound like a pretty good group in there (average attendance is 19,127, second-lowest in MLB).
