We had a golden opportunity to win the World Series and blew it. We will most likely never have so much go right for us in one season like we did last year.
Sigh, so true. There were no unbeatable or dominant teams last year. I was already licking my chops to face the Giants (who we had owned that season) in the second round after we were up big in Game 5. :(

We also knocked out their unbeatable ace, big bad Adam Wainwright, in game 5 and we still lost. Just unreal. :|

My two teams are #1 and #2 at something!

:lmao: At least your main squeeze will be playing in October. Polygamy does have its perks. I feel monogamy is overrated.   ;)

I wonder if sportscasters are going to start referring to teams not scoring RISP with no outs as "pulling a Nats".  Like: "The Cubs just pulled a Nats last inning".

I feel the Nats could've beaten SF in the NLCS although I'm not sure they beat the Tigers. What do you think?
Why not

It's tough to say because I have to hope something can be done to improve this crap but barring major upgrades I will say 85 wins and  I lowballed them by 10 wins.

Pretty solid estimate I would say depending on offseason moves.

This team has been horrendous at stranding runners in scoring position no matter how many outs there are in the inning.

I think we're going to be much better next year.
I like your attitude. I at least look forward to next year!

Maybe it's because the Lerners haven't sucked all my hope money yet...

Now in future seasons we are going to have to contend with the beastly Dodgers, a very good young Braves team, and a mess of teams in the NL Central that will be in the mix every season.

It will never be an easier road than it was in 2012.

That's just a feeling I had. Much like you, my brother and I were discussing that very thing when the Nats were up big in game 5.

I think someone needs to have a talk with Whitey Herzog about how to score runs.

Are they all smoking weed between innings?  That's the best explanation I can think of.

I didn't see much of the Nats last year but I've seen how poorly the Tigers have hit in the last two WS they have been to.  If the Nats were able to put together some hits in key spots, which I think they did amazingly last year, I would say they would have had a chance to win it all.

3 hard hit balls, 2 right at people.  I'm sure our luck will turn at some point.  Probably 2016.

There will always be powerhouses.  Those teams don't always perform under pressure.  Make the playoffs and then get hot.  Baseball has become a lot like hockey in that regard and to a smaller degree the NFL.

That's just a feeling I had. Much like you, my brother and I were discussing that very thing when the Nats were up big in game 5.
Feeling heading into Game 3: Dread, Edwin Jackson pitching just killed all aspirations for winning this game before it even began

Heading into Game 4: Hope, Felt that if we pushed it to a 5th game we'd win the series.

Heading into Game 5: Confidence, Felt that we could easily win the game. Gio on the mound, at home, tons of momentum.

6-0 lead in Game 5: Joyous, ecstatic, thinking about what I was going to do to celebrate when they sealed it in the 9th. Also thinking about facing the Giants and how I was going to be able to see the games when I traveled to Chicago for work the next day.

After the Game 5 loss: Silence, Numb. Ignored all phone calls and texts. Turned off the TV. Didn't yell. Went to bed trying to somehow rationalize what had just happened.

it's like we get a hit per inning.   Which is alright as an average.  But 1 hit per inning every inning is terrible.  Unless you hit a home run, you don't score.  Because most hits are singles, we don't steal bases and we can't execute small ball moving up runners.  All that equals 0 runs in most innings.

The Nats can't get Junior Lake out.
