Nationals prospect RHP Austin Voth turned in another strong start on Monday for Double-A Harrisburg, allowing one earned run on four hits over seven innings.
Voth’s eight strikeouts matched his single-game high this season and he walked only one batter, throwing 65 of 98 pitches for strikes. The 23-year-old right-hander has been sharp this season in his first taste of the Eastern League, posting to a 3.06 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9 and 8.6 K/9 in 103 innings (17 starts). Meanwhile, Voth has pitched particularly well over his last four turns, with a stellar 1.39 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 27/6 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 26 innings. The University of Washington product’s strikeout rate is likely to decline as he moves up the minor league ladder, but his plus command and knack for changing speeds should give him a chance carve out a role as a No. 4 or 5 starter with the Nationals.
