It's just not as simple as that. By price I assume you mean what we would have to give up in trade. But face it, there's no way we are giving up anything of value for Scherzer without first securing an extension. (That can be done. A Conditional trade with a window to sign him.) So when considering "price" you have to consider not just how much in trade but how big a contract.
Let's just say we signed him to a one year extension. (Hypothetical and highly unlikely, but it then provides a basis for comparison with Price.) So the question is, two years of Scherzer or two years of Price. I say Price. I just don't see that Scherzer has established himself as an elite pitcher, based on one elite season. Price has established himself as elite.
Anyway, I think 4years/60M is about right. If we could work that out, then you have to consider trading Rendon. I don't think I would do it, I would try to convince them to take Espinosa.
