Bring back Lannan.

I doubt if he'd come back having spent a year in Syracuse.

Or how about no emotional attachment anymore and he actually is pretty lousy.  He probably doesn't break most teams rotations by now.  He is depth at best.

Hope he has fun in Houston.

Speaking of which, does anyone think Brad Peacock will ever amount to anything for the Astros?  Milone got sent down this year and Peacock can't seem to crack the Houston rotation.  The Nats got Cole back and Norris seems to be the only net positive out of the Gio deal.  Pretty crazy that the Nats got Gio for next to nothing.

Peacock did much better in his second callup. I'd guess that he'll get penciled into a rotation spot alongside Cosart, Oberholtzer, and maybe Paul Clemens. (Oberholtzer and Clemens would make two parts of the Bourn deal in the rotation. Nice.)

I know he's a FA. My question is why would the Sawks not match any offer he gets? He has been very good for them and I don't know of any internal replacements for him right off hand.

They screwed him last off season,  all things being equal,  why would he want to stay?

Peacock, as Vega said, showed enough his second time in the rotation to definitely get a chance at cracking the rotation next season.

What is Peacock's proposed ceiling?  I'm guessing the Nats got Gio for two number 5's and a decent catching prospect.

Also looks like the Rangers might be in on Abreu as well.

Hey, forget Abreu. Back to how we're going to get Scherzer, some good, young bullpen arms, and a middle infield prospect.

Would Zimmermann be enough to get Profar?

Why precisely do you want to deal J-Zimm? He may not be an ace, but he's still a very good pitcher. Scherzer is a fantasy. Detroit will keep him.

Actually I think Detroit will trade Scherzer as he is getting close to FA and they can't afford to keep him.  Instead of letting said player hit FA and getting a potential draft pick in return, it might be better to try and trade him early in order to bring back something.  Detroit really doesn't have many prospects coming up and in order for them to stay competitive, it makes most sense for them to deal Scherzer before hitting FA and getting a haul for him.

That being said, Price is a year younger and I think the trade package would be similar to get either Price or Scherzer.  I'd take the younger guy, and Price is a lefty which is an added bonus.

Mike Ilitch is worth nearly $3 billion dollars and he is 84 years old. He wants to win. He'll pony up the money to keep Scherzer.

where are you guys seeing this scherzer trade nonsense? the dude is gonna win the cy young, there is no way in hell they trade him. the tigers are a team that will go for a world series next year, they arent gonna trade a cy young winner for rendon and some garbage. that is ludicrous.

Because so far, he's a first half wonder.

He's got one foot in the grave and his team is losing money, with payroll only getting larger. Scherzer is a free agent in 2015, Miguel Cabrerra in 2016. About that time, Fielder and Verlander's long term deals will really start to be expensive. They'll look to deal, probably to shore up the farm team.

They don't have a lot of salary obligations or talent in the farm system.

The Scherzer trade talk first came up in MLBTR.  He has one year until free agency and he's a Boras client, so he will likely test the waters.  Also, they're going to have to start thinking about extending Miggy, who will be asking for $30 million per year.

I wouldn't have either. It's only money. It's not like a 6/68 would have made it unable to sign Strasburg or Harper in 4-6 years

Masahiro Tanaka.
Not nearly the talent Darvish was. Great control but his K/9 has decreased the last two years. And he's thrown fewer innings each season as well. Not saying that he's bad, but there should be some caution there. I don't see him being a number 1 like Darvish. He looks more like a Kuroda or Ryu
