It's not Zimmerman's shoulder. It's in his head.

He may not have the arm strength he once had, but he's got plenty enough not to play as close as he does.

As for the rest of the ideas... Yall make my head hurt.

Agreed.  Even by some miraculous event the Nats end up in the WC game this season, this offseason should be chock full of movement.  At the very least they should be moving Zim over to 1B.  If that then means they need to make a big trade for Howie Kendrick, since it looks like they aren't happy with Espinosa, or someone else, then they might just do it.

if zim has to move to first in the first year of his extension, that becomes one of the worst contracts in baseball- I cant see rizzo doing it

You keep saying that, but we're seeing a pretty big dropoff with the bat too

I look at it two ways:

1)  If he moves over to 1B and continues to produce at a wRC+ 119, then the Nats are in trouble big time.

2)  If he moves over to 1B and return to a wRC+ 130 clip, then the Nats have a relatively inexpensive, high producing 1B.

I think a 25-30 HR bat still exists with Zim, and him being at 3B just magnifies his issues.  I'm hoping that his fielding issues play into his offensive woes.

No upper body work in the off season.

I don't know who started the myth about him playing close but I've been watching him play all season (in person) and he pretty much plays at the same spot as the opposing 3B.

And his throwing has improved as the season went along. You hope with an offseason of work, it will get there for next season.

No upper body work in the off season.

Which could be a direct result of favoring shoulder injuries.

He had surgery. IIRC he didn't start throwing until mid February.

Zimmerman will be an All-Star at 3rd base next season.  Book it.

Wright getting injured again?

Wright, Alvarez, Johnson, Prado, Arenado and nearly every 3B in the NL just all forget to play next year.

I was somewhat serious about the Hector Santiago thing.  The Sox want young power and they could trade Santiago considering their glut of left handed pitchers.  Tyler Moore could be very useful to them and the Nats are already stuck with Hairston off the bench next year.  Zim looks like he really needs to move to 1B now, so Moore is blocked by big Z.  Obviously it takes more than Tyler Moore, but Santiago isn't a huge asset to them right now, so maybe Tyler Moore and Espinosa get the negotiations started?  Santiago also has use in the pen or rotation.

Tyler moore is 27 next year and Danny isn't valued by anybody. The sox are trying to get younger and Santiago would be the youngest player in that deal. Not happening

Are they trying to get younger, or just better?  I'm serious because I never can tell with the White Sox.  They never say "re-build" only "re-tool".  I doubt the Nats would be the only suitors for Santiago as well.

I figure if the Nats are going to make any trades this offseason, they should attempt to get Howie Kendrick.  Angels want pitchers.  Nats have some pitching depth now with TJordan, Karns and Roark.  If the Dodgers are in play on Kendrick, the Nats won't win that deal though.

Are those splits just his MLB splits?  Fangraphs shows that he has only played 37 games.  Very small sample size.  What are his MiLB splits?

Does anybody think LaRoche starts at 1B next year?  Span is finally showing life and might save himself for next season.  Given Zim, do you trade all your bullets for Howie Kendrick?
