I thought Lincecum stated he was ready to start becoming a closer.

Yeah, I forgot Jordan. I wouldn't trade him away, he's not the type that'll get much back in terms of a win-win type trade (not due to skill, but due to the fact that he is quiet).
:lmao:

Somebody get Dan Haren a bull horn and we can move him in the waiver period.

I don't  think you made any headway there.
Trades happen between guys with scouting reports in their hands

What he's saying is "perception is reality" in most cases.

True, however trades also happen with Owners over shoulders (See: Yankees trade for Soriano a few weeks back). An owner will want Gio or Strasburg over Zimmerman because Gio and Strasburg are names that sell tickets/put butts in seats.

alright, thought finished...and a respected WNFF'er acted as attorney.
You are out of time out.

just kidding - no one puts people in time out here. Except BiL....and his time out exists only on his computer.

The reality is that smart GM's don't deal in "perception" they deal in stats.

I see a lot more Zimmermann jerseys than Gonzalez jerseys around town

I'm not arguing that point, just pointing out what the guy was trying to say.  And I agree with his assessment that ownership can often interfere in otherwise sound baseball decisions.

Thread revival!

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/08/2014-free-agent-power-rankings.html

Quote
3.  Brian McCann.  McCann jumps up a spot on this list, as his .528 slugging percentage (seventh in the NL) establishes him as the top power bat on the free agent market who won't require $100MM+.  Plus, he won't turn 30 until February and can handle catching duties.

I feel like adding Cano and/or McCann would shake up this team's offensive woes... but that's what I feel (aka hope).

Necro quote from CMD in a different thread, btw.

How about McCann at 1B?  Surely he has the bat to play their, and he could be had for a decent 4-5 year contract.  Don't have to worry as much about his knees at 1B either.  I know some will hate on him because he is currently a Barve, but the Nats are already getting production out of a division rival's former player.

I'd have no problem pilfering a player from a rival. My question is if he'd be willing to make the move, not to mention that I don't see Rizzo dumping LaR.

Adam LaRoche was made for the bench.

I don't want McCann. I like Ramos at C, with Zuk platooning every once in a while.

I'd love Cano but I can't seeing the Yankees letting him go.

I wonder what McCann would take- if some team is willing to pay him as a catcher, is he worth the same money as a first baseman?

I'm guessing they're projecting McCann at first, primarily.

We could move Ramos to 1B.

no, he isn't. There is no reason to sign McCann, who is a pretty good defensive catcher, if you are gonna throw him at 1B. Don't want. The Braves aren't gonna sign him anyway. If the Yanks don't get Cano I see McCann as #2 on their FA list.

I'm all for signing Kendrys Morales over McCann, the McCann idea was that he puts up tremendous numbers for a catcher and playing him at 1B would take the strain off his knees.  Morales would be great with the whole switch hitting for power thing, and he has played 1B before.

The Yankees should easily be able to sign Cano, and possibly McCann as well.  They have a ton of money coming off the books and if ARod is suspended, then they don't have to pay him his money either.
