Shh...  We don't talk about the dark times.

That series killed the 2010 Nats!

Berkman still swung damnit!

As an emergency shortstop, ok. Like an emergency catcher.   If Desmond is out three games, I'm comfortable with Espinosa at short, with Rendon filling in in case you have to pinch hit for Espinosa.   I am not comfortable with Rendon playing shortstop all three games.
That's assuming Espinosa is on the roster. I'm assuming he won't be until he show's he can hit.

Wasn't that the series where Ray Knight drew a bunch of indecipherable lines all over home plate to try to show something about Craig Stammen?

@CSNwashington: The #Nats appear to be fairly set for 2014, but could they pull off another late offseason surprise? http://ow.ly/sbYjn #MLB

Kind of a strange article, they list all of the January and February transactions from the past few years and then question whether another "surprise" move will happen this year. How can it be a surprise of Rizzo makes a significant trade or signing during this time frame every year?

It's kind of like the Spanish Inquisition.  You knew they were out there, but when they showed, it always was a surprise.

is Michael Young going to take the stance of Everyday, or retire?

Teams have shown interest and nothing came around.
He is still sitting out there.
Would allow us to use Tyler Moore's option year so he could play every day.
A right handed insurance plan/platoon for ALR and can play other infield positions (not short)

How about Valdespin off the bench?

What happens if you don't get  signed?  There are an awful lot of FA and ML Free agents remaining

Back on topic...
I'd rather sign Jeff Baker if we're looking for a platoon partner. Younger and probably cheaper as well.

Yeah, I find it odd they haven't introduced him...but for some reason I don't remember Denard Span having a press conference last year either.

Prince Fielder had one with the Rangers. Guess which one has been the more valuable player over his career?

Edit: Haha I guessed wrong, it's Prince Fielder

Well yes, but my stats research lead me to believe Doug Fister is a better extension candidate than Jordan Zimmermann. The Nats should extend both.

Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports that the market for Carroll is indeed heating up, and the Nationals and Indians are in the mix (Twitter)

Why would we want a 38 year old backup?

@ChrisCotillo: Source: #Nationals agree to sign Jamey Carroll

Yippee freaking skippee, let's get Ryan Church, Robert Fick, Dmitri Young, John Patterson, Michael Morse, and every other lovable loser in team history and sign them too.

Well that probably means Espinosa is not going to be on the club.  Now just sign Jeff Baker to replace T-Mo and trade T-Mo and Espinosa for another lefty reliever.
