Looks like Peavy is going from the White Sox to the Red Sox with 1 other team involved.
9:56pm: Bob Nightegngale of USA Today tweets that Garcia is indeed headed to the White Sox.

9:54pm: Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports talked to an executive who is speculating that the White Sox will receive Avisail Garcia (Twitter link). Jim Bowden of ESPN and MLB Network Radio agrees, though he notes that Garcia to the White Sox is unconfirmed. Garcia was pulled from his game at Triple-A Toledo tonight. Rosenthal tweets that more names are coming.

9:48pm: Iglesias is headed to Detroit, according to Danny Knobler of CBS Sports (Twitter link). He will provide the Tigers with insurance at shortstop in the event of a Biogenesis suspension for Jhonny Peralta.

9:46pm: It's a three-team deal involving the Tigers as well, according to Alex Speier of WEEI.com. Iglesias is indeed in the trade, while Jackie Bradley Jr. is not.

9:37pm: The Red Sox and White Sox have agreed to a trade that will send Jake Peavy to Boston, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (Twitter link). Jose Iglesias is believed to be headed to Chicago in the trade, Heyman reports in a separate tweet.

I question the wisdom of trading Iglesias, but Peavy is a nice addition.

Garcia looks a crap ton like Miggy.  Sad to see him go but glad to see the Tigers add Iglesias.

Edit: by looks like I literally mean appearance not tools.

Is Peralta going to ride the pine now?

Wasn't he an All Star?

Isn't he implicated in the Biogenesis nonsense?  Maybe a suspension has been confirmed?

Pretty sure he is gonna be hit with a 50 game "can't play" soon.

Iglesias’ 231 plate appearances in majors include 24 infield singles. .244/.296/.292 line in 916 AAA plate appearances.

Why was he such a terrible hitter in the Minors? Luck? Or tangible improvement in the Majors?

Some people thought he was pouting when he was sent down to start the season, he had to sit out a couple games for showing a poor attitude.  And he's also cooled off a bunch since his terrifically hot start when they called him up.

Why would you assume the 231 career major league plate appearances is the real Iglesias?

His current BABIP is .377. It was something ridiculous like .500 before july. His line in  july is .200/.244/.213 with 2 BB and 1 XBH. He was never really expected to hit well in the majors and rode a ridiculous BABIP to a good stat line for a bit but the red sox think they are selling high on an ss that will be brendan ryan lite. The tigers have a great lineup with no defense and desperate for a peralta replacement. This is one of those trades spurned by biogenesis suspensions

Nice matches.  For the Tigers, it is Iglesias for Garcia and Villareal.  That is reasonable.  Iglesias already fields like Omar Vizquel.  He is young enough so that he could develop into an OK slap hitter.  As sph points out, don't get fooled by his BABIP luck into thinking he a .300 hitter right now, but he'll be a positive if he can maintain .270 in the majors.  with physical development, he could potententially beat that.

As for Garcia, I guess he did not take over left field for the Tigers, so they probably think they can get by without him, and the Peralta suspension talk made the deal a must.  I think the White Sox were holding out for a major league ready outfielder and Boston was trying to hold onto JB Jr. as Ellsbury insurance.  The Peralta stuff made this deal happen.

Finally, I like Villareal.  I think he has had durability issues which makes him not a closer candidate, but he has great stuff and ptiched well last year.  This year, he blew up early and was sent down.  He's clearly behind Rondon and Veras at this point so he was expendable.

Iglesias is still very young.  He advanced through the system quickly.  Unlike the Nats, the Red Sox tend to make challenging level assignments, so a lot of the younger players have weak stats their first year at their new level.  That does not explain his hot start at the majors, which should have been the ultimate challenge, but I think just getting older and stronger and more coaching probably help him hit the ball harder.

I also agree there is a bit of "sell high" on the bat right now.  Also, Iggy could be traded because the Sox have Bogaerts in AAA (consensus top 10 prospect) and used their #1 pick last year on Devin Marrero, another SS.
