Follow the Prospects: Jake Johansen, RHP
« Topic Start: July 06, 2013, 09:36:05 AM »

Jake Tanner Johansen

Height: 6'6

Weight: 235

DOB: 1/23/91

Hometown: Allen, TX

College: Dallas Baptist

Position: Pitcher

Drafted: 2nd round 68 overall

Johansen, a college senior, was the Friday-night starter for Dallas Baptist. Keith Law ranked Johansen the No. 63 prospect in the draft, while Baseball America ranked him No. 182. MLB.com notes Johansen's four-pitch mix but says he's currently "more of a thrower," and his future might be in the bullpen.

It'd be nice to have him start next season in Potomac to see how he does.

This source has Johansen to Hagerstown: http://www.fingerlakesdailynews.com/news/details.cfm?clientid=16&id=89843#.UhOJQMu9KSM

This would give him an opportunity to pitch for a good team in a playoff environment.

I think I might make the trip up there to see him pitch soon.

real interested if he's been able to develop his secondary pitches.  if so, we have more than a reliever.

Well, Johansen's first A-ball start didn't go so well...

Hagerstown Suns
Player IP R ER BB SO HR ERA
Jake Johansen (L, 0-1) 4.2 6 5 4 2 3 1 7.71

... but this article (though it has a misspelling in the hyperlink) got me pretty hyped

Looks like all of the pundits were right. He has flamed out as a starter and has made 5 straight appearances in Hagerstown as a reliever.

He may be a useful reliever in a few years but this was a bad second round draft choice.
