“The Hagerstown Suns, the Class A South Atlantic League affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are interested in relocating to Fredericksburg,” according to the release from City Manager Beverly R. Cameron.

The Hagerstown Suns may relocate to Fredericksburg, and that doesn’t bother the Potomac Nationals one bit.

Potomac Nationals owner Art Silber said his team pulls fans from Prince William and Fairfax counties, and the prospect of Fredericksburg having a team just 26 miles away from his will not be a problem, Frederickburg.com reports.

Hagerstown's owner will be in Fredericksburg to meet with officials Monday and city council will hold a special session on July 9th to gauge public support.

Fredericksburg’s Economic Development Authority has already given their thumbs up on the project.

Lots of good buzz down here. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I hate to see the Nats cede their only Maryland affiliate to Virginia. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I hate Virginia or anything, I just think there should be a Nats Maryland presence. Otherwise Baltimore owns all the Maryland affiliates (Baysox and Keys).

This also isolates Harrisburg.  I wonder if that means a swap of AA affiliates with the Giants?

A friend who goes to a lot of Suns games says the stadium (and in particular the field) is the worst in the league.

Where's the Giants' affiliate?

Harrisburg is probably faster to get to than most locations in central-southern Virginia locations.

They should usurp Harry Grove Stadium and move to Frederick.

There's no point to that Syracuse AAA location.
Richmond.

Richmond is supposed to have a terrible field.  VA wouldn't pay for improvements.

It would be fantastic marketing for the Nats, though.

If they are going to abandon Maryland, I'm a little disappointed that they haven't been able to work something out with Winchester. The western part of Northern Virginia seems like it would be a great, under-served area in which to locate a Nationals affiliate.

Abandoning Maryland seems stupid. I do wish we'd put a team in Richmond.

Is there some reason they wouldn't relocate the Chiefs? Honest question, don't flip out on me. Seems odd to have a team up there, and it's cold early in the season.

Agreed. It's a great drive out to Winchester on route 7.
