I knew an 86-year-old man (who died over a year ago) with a similar experience.  He grew up on a farm with an outhouse and, of course, no street lights. His dog would meet him at night when he returned from school after activities there.  He'd grab onto the dog, who would lead him back to the house in the pitch dark.

Taylor Swift.  She gave a free concert years ago at Ireton High School in Alexandria VA.  They won a contest where the high school that sent in the most Ipod votes got a free concert.

Swift has done this at least a couple of times.
Last year it was Harvey Mudd College.

2009 was also the year of  the MTV Video Music Award incident with Kanye West.
Switft was already real big by then.
