NCAA Football - 2013-2014 Edition
« on: April 26, 2013, 11:33:10 am »
Terps reportedly have signed local QB Will Ulmer (Saint John's), who chose Maryland over Ohio State and Florida State among many others.

Well, he committed. He can't sign yet.

What's the general consensus from Terp fans about joining the B1G?  As a Michigan fan I lie knowing that Big Blue will be playing close every now and again.

Many are all mopey about the tradition thing (like the Carolina schools ever gave a crap about playing UMD).

I'm perfectly happy UMD will be joining the B1G. I'll be able to watch all the games on the B1G Network.

We'll get our ass kicked in football for a while, but we're going to improve the B1G in almost every other sport. We're damn good at basketball and virtually all the second tier sports.

Serious question: what's Maryland baseball like?  Do they even have it?

Brett Cecil used to be their closer and he's been lights out this year.

As a college hockey fan, I'm hoping Maryland picks up the sport now.  There's room for a D1 program between the Norhtern VA and MoCo schools, as well as probably some prep.   Navy should start one too like the other service academies.  that would set up travel partners so they could get teams to come in.

Except the Big Ten just picked up hockey as one of their official sports now, so I'd imagine Maryland would play there if they added the sport.

They have it: it's not good. In this area, the athletes that don't play football often pick Lacrosse rather than baseball. Same seasons in High School.

Justin Maxwell is a product of Maryland baseball.

DPM -that's what I meant. Since the Big 10 just formed as a hockey league, it'd be a nice way for UMD to integrate into the conference.  They'd be roadkill for a while, but so will Penn State.  Meanwhile, having a second program here, like Navy, would make visits to Washington attractive to non-big 10 schools because they could schedule two non-conference opponents over a weekend.

as an ECAC fan, the last thing you should hope for is the big whatever getting into hockey, their money is going to be enough to swamp the traditional powers

Well, they are already in it.  Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ohio State, with Penn State making 6 and a conference.  The old CCHA broke up, with most of the best of the remaining old WCHA forming a new conference, the NCHC, and the remains of the WCHA and CCHA forming a new WCHA.  Notre Dame is going to Hockey East.

hey, at least my school has more football national championships than just about the rest of you. Of course, I think they were all prior to 1900.

Hey, I have no complaints with a 91 year college football season (assuming we can bring new players in...)
