I don't think that can be gainsaid. It's just that Griffin may have the more upside.

There is plenty of blame to go around. The way Cousins says that he is going to submit to authority, to me, indicates that it is commonly believed that Griffin was not willing to do that but believed himself to be the one in charge.

Be sure the media will whip it up into a frenzy to last all winter.

Is Shanahan finished as an NFL head coach?

Owner gives him full control and he pulls this crap on the way out, supposedly over the owner having a relationship with the star qb, something that happens all over the league, I think it's safe to assume he's done

Doing crap backwards. They should've sat him out for the first few games before the bye so he could take more time to get his knee better prepared. Also, they may have even won the opener.

Last time this happened Shanahan brought in Jamarcus Russell for a workout. Who will he bring in for a workout this time around, Vince Young?  :stir:

Mike says Bruce and Danny are 100% behind the decision.

Look, now the Redskins and Nationals are even. They shut down the stars before the end of the season to protect them. I assume the Caps will be shutting Ovie down after the Olympics.

No with fingers crossed.   :)
Kirk Cousins is a game manager. There are always game managers out there. There is nothing wrong with that. RGIII has a huge arm, huge speed, and good accuracy. This season has sucked from top to bottom (including him) but he showed enough last season to be prove potential to be a star quarterback. Cousins is a good QB in case of injury, but you don't build a team around Kirk Cousins.

The next coach will be hired with the goal of building the team around RGIII and recovering that spark that made him a game changing star QB as a rookie. I know that goes against the shtick of some posters, but it is the way it will be.

Quote
According to a report in the Post, the threat to bench Griffin seems "an attempt by Shanahan to provoke Snyder to fire him this week." Because Shanahan's contract contains very specific language giving him control over personnel moves, that would qualify as a firing without cause—and entitle Shanahan to his remaining money. He wants Snyder to ax him and save Griffin from the bench.

You're an idiot if you think that same offense is going to work the way it did last year when it caught the league off guard.

Playoffs are the gorilla in the room.   Stras could have helped.   Ovie would help.    RGIII is irrelevant to the playoffs this year.

No crap you can't run the same offense. Defenses adjust, your offense has to adjust back. It's a never ending process. That's what coaches do, they adjust.

Cooley is claiming that the chiefs were reading Griffen like a book and that once he looked at one side of the field they shifted coverage knowing that he never would go back to the other side, if this is true :hang: Has there ever been a QB who actually learned to read progressions and become a pocket passer while starting in the NFL?

I hope RGIII becomes everything he can be, but you gotta wonder if the "let me be me" Griffin would be willing to do that, or if he'd just run to Danny.

They adjusted their offense this season back to an offense (or similar to) that has worked in this league for a long time and is still working at other places but the QB struggled running it. It's easy to read a defense when the second level is crashing futilely into the line of scrimmage and your number one target is wide open. It's another thing to actually read a defense that presents layers of coverage and Griffin was not able to do it consistently.

This season has sucked for everyone and the offense is broken. The players have quit. Can't write a book about any player from this season alone. No coach will ask RGIII to become a pocket passer. He'll always be an athletic guy who can win a game with his legs. He has to improve from the pocket, but he doesn't have to live there. That is understood.

And yes, a lot of quarterbacks have improved from year 2 to 3. It is crazy to act like any player will stop developing after their second season.
