As a Steelers' fan, I'm kind of pleased with this:

"Rashard Mendenhall, the talented but star-crossed Steelers running back, signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals, his agent announced this afternoon."

If he stays healthy the Patriots offense won't miss a beat. Not having a bruising running attack really hurts them in the playoffs. Maybe getting McDaniels back will help them out a lot.

All they really need is to get Gronk healthy, keep Brady standing up, and let Hernandez create mismatches.  Their RBs aren't punishing, but they have a lot of them (Ridley, Vereen, Bodden, Woodie).  Line up Hernandez as an H back and go with 2 tight ends, and they can run.

Woodhead is a FA right now.

I'm sure they can find a bruiser in the draft if need be.

drafting a wide out deep threat.  Draft them rather than pay for them, I guess.  i'm thinking Woodhead will be back.  It's not like BJGE, who was going to be more expensive as a primary back.  Woodie is only a 3d down back.  if someone thinks otherwise, he's gone, but if he'll take 3d down back pay, he'll be slotted in with the Pats.   OK, in theory they could just use Bodden or Vereen, but I think they are < woodie.

Also a Steelers recevier, Emmanuel Sanders.

Greg Bedard at the Globe (Boston.com) is a pretty good writer.  When he thinks through roster moves (let this guy walk, look for a vet free agent for this position, draft to fill that one), he can be pretty close.

WTF is up with that? I wouldn't think the steelers would want to part ways with him. He has a third round tender on him though and the Patriots usually value their draft picks.

Pittsburgh is cap squeezed so the pats can structure an offer the steelers could not match, again per Bedard.  This is kind of like how the Pats lost Curtis Martin in days of yore.

Ponder and Cassel can throw it in his general direction but fail to connect. They both suck like that.

True on the cap plus the Steelers often let non-stars go without an offer (or a low ball).   Deep down, I think they were sorely disappointed with the overall performance of their wide receivers.   I think they all became expendable.    I think Mendenhall fell in the same position and they let him fly too.

We can't afford him, and it's not like finding a #3 receiver is impossible to do.

the bears have cut ties with Brian Urlacher.  Anyone want to bet on how long before Danny goes after him?

No cap room not to mention that we already have a player-coach in Fletcher. I was an Urlacher fan and hope he's able to play a couple more solid years. Sadly, I think his body can't do it anymore.

the bears offered 1 year $2 million, from his comments on the radio, I'm thinking he takes something similar to stay in division- he seems pissed at the front office
