A FORMAL induction. I think Lou Gehrig was gone. Not sure about Hornsby. War going on, so probably all planes and trains were used for the war effort and freight is my guess. Everything was rationed back then. Also, many players were IN the war too!
Gehrig died in 1941 and Hornsby in 1963; of the old-timers all except Clarke and Duffy (died 1960 and 1954 respectively) were gone.
