So I guess the Wilpons break out the champagne knowing insurance will cover most of his salary.

EDIT: Holy crap the Mets didn't insure his contract.   :lmao:

If he's insured,  I thought it was getting prohibitively expensive to insure pitchers

Edit no insurance

Your starting pitching and bench don't have me dancing in the streets, but having Miguel Cabrera, Bryce Harper and Buster Posey on one team is just cruel.

How many teams were in the league where you managed to snag Cabrera and Posey? Posey must have slipped if this was a snake draft.

Jackie Bradley Jr. likely to make the Red Sox opening day roster. Ryan Sweeney was not picked up for the MLB roster.  It looks like the Red Sox are willing to sacrifice a year's control of JBJ if he plays well enough to stick.  He was not on the 40 man roster, so all they needed to do was to keep him in the minors for a week and a half to get an extra year's control.

This is a little different than Rendon in that there is not a starting spot available for Rendon right away. Espinosa played well enough to keep that job.  With Ortiz hurt, Gomes can DH and Bradley, Ellsbury, and Victorino can all play the OF.  The Red Sox had an opening, and Bradley out played Overbay, Carp, Sweeney, Gomez, Lavarnway, and Nava, and the team did not decide that Salty as DH and Ross / Lavarnway as catcher was the way to go.  We'll see what happens when Ortiz is back and playing time gets squeezed.  If they eventually send JBJ down, he will need to stay in the minors 3 weeks this year in order to gain back the extra year of control.

Jose Iglesias is also going to make the roster at SS as Steven Drew is out with a concussion.

It makes no sense. Farrell saying “We can’t control tomorrow, let alone six years from now,”  is a real head scratcher  since they can control tomorrow.

Yeah, me too.  At least Goodwin hasn't been a bust.  But we could have had Bradley Jr. with that draft pick.

Quote from: Buster Olney
Sources: Justin Verlander can make $202m under terms of his new deal. He'll get $180m over next seven seasons, plus vesting option of $22m.

Money league. I don't think I've finished out of the Top 3 in the last 4 years. I actually build it into my yearly budget.

he's a 1st or 2nd round pick in most 10 team drafts.

.204/.283/.323 in 55 games.

That's the guy the Dodgers are starting at SS while Hanley recovers.  You'd think, for $200 mil, they'd have been able to find a better backup infielder.

Hanley wasn't injured until after most players were under contract. The Dodgers also are paying close to $11M for Uribe and Hairston. Not a lot of players would find that the best situation to put themselves in.

This was an interesting article on the Phillies relying on old-school scouting much more than most other teams.

All true.  Still, it's surprising that they couldn't do better.  They have some SP depth.  Maybe they should trade some of it for a better fill-in shortstop.
