If Storen can't pitch in games like this we need to make a new closer a priority this season.

Wow. That blew chunks. The only good thing to come out it was I have come to respect other rivals who have some freaking balls. Damn arrogant cockroaches.

Locking for now and moving to uncensored at the request of several folks due to "pictures".  Venting about the game can go in a main board thread.

Unlocked and moved back to game day thread.  Unless someone can point to series of picturesographic posts, then take your lumps if your only objection is that people posted some comments that could be taken as premature gloating.

I'd say the fun died around the fifth inning.

Not even going to comment on the game.

Its been a great season! we've proved that we can compete with the best and now, hopefully, we can become consistently one of the major teams in the MLB for years to come.

Not the storybook ending we all hoped for though...

Davey looks like he's done. Would not be shocked if he stepped down as manager sometime in November.

If he steps down, and I'm not saying that he should, t had better be soon and not wait til November.

ATTENDANCE at this match: 45,966
Largest crowd in Nationals Park history.

Not just Nats Park history but the Washington NL franchise overall - it also tops the RFK high of 45,157 (the 'Who's Your Daddy' Yankees finale from 2006).

In keeping with this franchise's history, another fine tradition was upheld: during the fifth inning I heard a chap behind me say that the Ben's chili concessions in the 300's had run out of chili.

From running out of hot dog buns in the fourth inning at our home debut in 2005...to running out of Ben's chili in the fifth inning in our 2012 post-season finale...plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.

[It should be noted, though, that the chap selling Amstel, Heineken and Stella in the 300 stands was fully stocked throughout - four visits to my section.]

I'm convinced DC is cursed. Our freakin souls just got ripped out again. First caps now this I'm done with sports for a while my heart can't take this crap

I've come to understand that being a fan of ANY sports team invariably brings more pain than pleasure.

I feel devastated.  My 8 year old grandson called me after the 6-run lead and said, "We won."  I said, "I don't know if you've heard the expression, 'Don't count your chickens before they hatch.'"  When I said that, I didn't mean it.  I, too, thought we were a cinch to win.  Alas, it was not to be.

Our bats gave us the big lead.  Our bullpen failed to keep it, as the Cardinals, bit by bit, inch by inch, took it away.  Such a pity.

It was a magical year for the Nationals and their fans.   The ending was heart-breaking.  And telling me there's always next year doesn't quite hack it right now. :(

It is heartbreaking, but what a run. At the beginning of the season did anyone think we were even going to get to post-season? Don't get me wrong, I was thinking a few days ago that maybe we could go further this year, but let's not forget that this is the best year we've had as Nats fans.
