I feel devastated. My 8 year old grandson called me after the 6-run lead and said, "We won." I said, "I don't know if you've heard the expression, 'Don't count your chickens before they hatch.'" When I said that, I didn't mean it. I, too, thought we were a cinch to win. Alas, it was not to be.
Our bats gave us the big lead. Our bullpen failed to keep it, as the Cardinals, bit by bit, inch by inch, took it away. Such a pity.
It was a magical year for the Nationals and their fans. The ending was heart-breaking. And telling me there's always next year doesn't quite hack it right now.
