Nationals @ Cardinals, Game 2
« Topic Start: September 29, 2012, 03:51:58 PM »

Hello again everybody, and welcome to Nationals on Deck from Busch Stadium in St. Louis, as the Nationals and the Cardinals get set to square off for the second game of this three game series.  Last night's matchup saw the World Champion Cardinals bash Edwin Jackson to the tune of 9 runs in one and a third innings en route to a 12-2 victory, that, Dave, all but wrapped up the second wildcard slot for the Cardinals.

That's right Charlie.  With the Cardinals' win, and losses by the Phillies and Brewers, the Cardinals magic number to clinch the wildcard dropped to three.  Luckily for the Nationals, despite losing last night's matchup, they also received help from the suddenly hot New York Mets, who defeated the Atlanta Braves 3 to 1.  The Nationals magic number down to two, this is the first possible night, Charlie, that the Nationals can clinch the National League East pennant.

Feel free to post as Charlie or Dave in tonight's gamethread to continue Nationals on Deck, and when the lineups and batting orders come out, as well as joining me in listening to tonight's broadcast.  I prefer to listen to C&D over a Cardinals fan if the Nats are going to clinch tonight.

The final was 12-2 last night, was it not?

We win this one tonight...I have no doubt about it...

That's right, fell apart off of Gonzalez even more at the end there.

It's so weird seeing the men behind the voices. Dave looks unhealthily thin, and Charlie's voice sounds so much older than he actually is.

By the way, are they still going to be doing games during the playoffs?

I dont think so.  106.7 is CBS and I think the Playoffs are on Fox.

That wouldn't preclude.  CBS radio covers NFL games even if they're on FOX, I think.

Off to go tailgating at the football game, I'm expecting to come home to see a magic number of 1 or less!  Go Nats!

Radio guys do all play-off games.  There's also ESPN radio but they don't black out local radio.  FOX and TBS have exclusive television rights.

Wow. This is what they look like? I assumed they were both much older.

Tonight, we feast.

  • Allen Craig, 1B
  • Yadier Molina, C
  • Carlos Beltran, RF
  • Skip Schumaker, 2B
  • Peter Kozma, SS
  • Kyle Lohse, P

For Davey Johnson's Washington Nationals:
  • Jayson Werth, RF
  • Bryce Harper, CF
  • Ryan Zimmerman, 3B
  • Adam LaRoche, 1B
  • Michael Morse, LF

I think he's grown up a bit even as the season has gone on.

Absolutely.

He is great at interviews (along with Gio). Can give quick and well-thought answers on the spot.

Still no baseball on FM-106.7...covering to the end the Virginia Tech match (please move the post-match show to some other channel - we want our Nats!)

...no sooner said than done - they switch over to the baseball at 19.14 - thanks!
