Two freakups by Carpenter this inning.  One reactive, one he should've known better.

  He tries to make the calls fast, which is a virtue, but the downside is guessing wrong.

why the freak would they pitch to Simmons in a 0-0 game? I don't get it. All he had to do was make contact to give them the key lead. I don't get it.

Desmond watches too much MLB Network.  Could he have turned the double play to first?

I thought that no one was there but might not have seen the 1B.

That right there is on Davey. We needed to be playing like the first run scored is the crucial game clincher.

Gotta put Simmons, a contact guy, on base to face the weak hitting pitcher.

UNTRUE.  Contact into the DP ends the inning and pitcher leads off next inning.

see how easy that K was. should be bases loaded and Reed Johnson up with 2 outs and the score still 0-0..

Simmons is a fast runner, all he had to do was hit a ground ball or fly ball which he had a high probability of doing to give them the lead.

Simmons is the difference maker for the Braves. No question about it. Huge upgrade over Janish offensively and defensively.

He acted as though nobody was covering, but the replays were pretty bad on that whole play.  They also never showed an angle where you could see if Zimmerman's tag was on or not.

AGAIN UNTRUE.  Contact leads to DP's even with fast runners.  Danny and Espi are among the best DP combos in baseball.

And you don't walk a man into scoring position in the fourth inning.  Come the freak on.

Odds of him scoring that run from third were significantly higher than him hitting into a DP.

You said yourself he's a contact guy?  :lmao:  Can you even keep track of yourself?

And using your rationale with the Medlen K you put the bat in the leadoff hitters hands and the bases juiced.

I'd rather face Reed Johnson with a chance to get out of the inning unscathed than to pitch to Simmons to possibly get out of the inning unscathed.

that's now 15 consecutive scoreless innings for Medlen vs the Nats.

That quick inning right there hurt big time. Now he's all but assured to go at least 7 innings. We needed to get him out after 6 so we could get to beat on one of their middle relievers not named Eric O'Flaherty or Craig Kimbrel.
