Well, not necessarily. A good at-bat can result in a walk, for example. Sometimes it results in a lineout. Sometimes, it even results in a popout, because every pitch but the last was a quality one that was fought off or narrowly taken. He was in a great position to get on base. You have to look at process over results.

Or we can be results-oriented and see that we're in exactly the same situation as if Harper had bunted... not sure there's any evidence at all that the Nats should have given up an out to get a runner from first to second with one out already in the books. That's like, one of the worst times to bunt, even for a pitcher.
