I vaguely recall back in 2005, with the Nats still theoretically within reach of a playoff berth, they sent out invoices with perhaps a month left in the season - again that's if I remember correctly. After the Nats were mathematically eliminated, incumbent STH who were renewing for 2006 were allowed to use the money paid as a down payment on their 2006 season tickets.
