So the two pitchers that could replace CMW would be Detwiler and Lannan. Is there anyone else who could take the spot? Obviously Detwiler did fantastic today and I hope that's taken into consideration, just wondering what options Davey has here.

If they call up Maya before Lannan I'll buy the pitchforks if you guys will supply the gasoline.

I realize it's fun to look at the standings and see progress, or not fun to see regress, but again all that is meaningless during the season.  It's only where they are at the end of the season that matters.  Of course it's the objective to win, and we hope the other teams in our division lose, but syncronizing our wins with their losses or whatever is completely meaningless.

The individual games matter too.  Winning or losing games in the process of a season impact other games, impact other wins/losses.  There is a such thing as momentum or negative momentum.  Winning or losing games, your position in the standings, in June, impacts what you do or can do in July and August and it impacts what other teams do.   It's not like flipping a coin 162 times.

The process of getting to Game 162 is really important and the process is individual wins and losses, including wins and losses on June 19th.

#Rays Maddon calling out Nats Davey Johnson for checking Peralta's glove. First said cowardly, then upped to "[p-word] move," bush league.

We need the win more than they do.

I was working all throughout the game, so would someone kindly just give me a brief summary of what all went down tonight?

Basically we checked out Peralta's glove for pine tar, and then they were douches and tried to check Mattheus?

Yes.

The sole reason the pine tar was brought up was because, 2 outs I believe, but a 3-1 count, and the Rays stop the game for five minutes to cover a big red ad for tickets above the grassy knoll in CF that usually flips off and is green during play. They were jerks to stop play for that in the middle of an AB, the Nats knew about Peralta and retaliated. The Rays started it, and we made them regret it.

One of the greatest Nats moments of all time.  After this game we'll direct you to the game thread.

I tried to find highlights of that last week and MLB has seemingly taken them down.

Tom, that video is here: http://washington.nationals.mlb.com/media/player/mp_tpl_3_1.jsp?w_id=430347&w=2005/open/topplays/archive06/061405_wasana_benchclearer_350.wmv&pid=mlb_tp&gid=2005/06/14/wasmlb-anamlb-1&cid=mlb&fid=mlb_tp350&v=2

Tim Tschida was tonight's home plate umpire; he was also the home plate umpire on June 14, 2005 when Donnelly got ejected.  Weird.

From the AP report:

Quote
The ejection took the spotlight from David Price (9-4), who bounced back from his worst start of the season. He gave up four runs on six hits, struck out four and walked one. His last time out against the Mets, Price gave up seven runs in five innings.

"It was big for me," Price said. "It was good for our confidence and it was good for my confidence as well."

You're going to put the "spotlight" on David Price for winning a game, as the ace of their staff, against Chein Ming Wang, who happens to be one of the worst #5 starters in baseball, as the starter of the opposing team?  And it was a one-run win against the awful Wang.  This is spotlight worthy?

It was "big for you", David?  Beating Chein Ming Wang is big for you and good for your and your team's confidence?

Also from the AP:

Quote
As the reliever walked off the field, he tipped his cap to the Nationals dugout.

"Good for them," Peralta said. "They still lose the game."

Straight from the cheater's mouth.  This team and its manager are shameless.  >:(
