Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 30th win, each season:

2012 - 2nd June (51st match of season)
2005 - 4th June (56th match)
2010 - 10th June (61st match)
2006 - 11th June (64th match)
2012 - 12th June (66th match)
2007 - 17th June (69th match)
2008 - 20th June (75th match)
2009 - 26th July (98th match)

---

TODAY WITH THE '05 OVERACHIEVERS: Thursday 2nd June 2005 saw the Nats prevail in a slug-fest, 8-6, ironically in a home match against the Braves, to win this series 3-1. Carrasco for the win, Kolb, for the loss, Cordero with his 14th save: http://espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=250602120. This would be the start of a 10-match winning streak, so it'll be difficult for this year's edition to stay ahead of the '05 edition for the near future (the '05 team went 20-6 in June, best month in club history).

How about just "recorded?"

That's what I use.

Total domination by Strasburg, Flores back, what a great win

I'll always take a win.    And St. Stephen did look very good.

Call me the voice of doom, but this team not being able to hit for sh*t still scares me.

Every team we play seems to have good lead-off hitters, good power hitters and a few guys hitting over .300.

We got mostly crap.   But I'll ride this as long as it lasts.

Yeah, actually, on second thought, I probably do use recorded more than taped. But taped still slips in a surprisingly unintended amount. That said, of all three, did you dee vee arr that has to be the worst, still.

OK, if we're being 100% honest here, I probably do say to my kids sometimes if they "DVR'ed" something.

That game vs the Braves was as good as it gets.  We cheered like crazy when Kolb entered, he'd been stinking it up and we could just feel the game turning.  Took my dad to the game, he was totally ragging on the Braves fans around us.

Quote
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Just when it looked like the Nationals' bullpen had blown a game for a second straight night with a bad eighth inning, the Braves' Dan Kolb came in and fared even worse.

The Nationals scored five runs in the eighth, including four off the struggling Kolb, and backup catcher Gary Bennett had a career-high five RBI to lead Washington to an 8-6 victory over Atlanta on Thursday night.

Kolb (1-5) entered in the bottom of the eighth with a 6-3 lead after the Braves had rallied for four runs in the top of the inning. He gave way to Kevin Gryboski after recording just one out, leaving with the score 6-5 and runners on second and third.

After Gryboski intentionally walked Marlon Byrd to load the bases, Bennett doubled into right-center field to score all three runners.

"I pretty much feel terrible about my whole season right now," said Kolb, whose ERA is now 7.29. "Go home, do some thinking and see what happens tomorrow."

Bennett's go-ahead hit came after he gave the Nationals a 2-0 lead in the second with his first home run of the season, a two-run shot.

"He got us off to a good start today, and he put a good finish on it at the end," Nationals manager Frank Robinson said.

The loss dropped the Braves percentage points behind first-place Florida in the NL East, with Washington 1½ games back.

"You sure hate to lose it after you after you come back like that, haven't been hitting a whole bunch and get four runs and then give five up right away," Braves manager Bobby Cox said.

Robinson, on the other hand, said the victory was huge for the Nationals, who won three of the four games in the series.

"This was a big, big, big ballgame," he said. "It's the type of game you can get some momentum on."

The Nationals got started in the eighth when Carlos Baerga pulled a grounder through the right side of the infield to score Jamey Carroll, followed by Vinny Castilla's RBI double that cut Atlanta's lead to 6-5 and chased Kolb.

Washington reliever Gary Majewski, who had made 11 straight appearances without giving up a run, inherited a 3-2 lead in the eighth but couldn't hold it. Andruw Jones tied it with a one-out sacrifice fly. The Braves then loaded the bases, and all three runners scored after a single by pinch-hitter Johnny Estrada.

Estrada, after falling behind 0-2 in the count, fouled off three straight pitches before hitting a grounder up the middle past Majewski. All three runners scored on the play after a throwing error by center fielder Brad Wilkerson, who had tried to throw out Wilson Betemit at third.

Hector Carrasco (2-1) replaced Majewski and got the final out of the eighth before Chad Cordero pitched the ninth for his 14th save in 16 chances.

The Nationals blew a two-run lead Wednesday night against the Braves, giving up three runs in the eighth and losing 5-4. That came after Washington posted three consecutive one-run victories.

Washington received another good start by Esteban Loaiza, who allowed two runs and five hits over six innings, striking out seven. He is 1-4 despite a respectable 3.61 ERA. The Nationals average 1.9 runs when Loaiza is in the game, the worst run support in the majors for any starting pitcher.

Loaiza helped his own cause leading off the fifth with a double, moving to third on Wilkerson's groundout, and scoring on Carroll's sacrifice fly when a poor throw by right fielder Brian Jordan allowed the slow-footed Loaiza to trot in just ahead of the tag.

Loaiza pitched his way out of a jam in the sixth. After a one-out RBI single by Adam LaRoche made it 3-2 with runners on first and second, Loaiza struck out Andruw Jones and Jordan in succession to end the inning.

Yesterday's attendance of 41,042 was just a few hundred short of a sell-out but nonetheless was good enough for 9th on the all-time Nats Park attendance list - four of the top 10 drawing matches have come this season:

44,685   Saturday 20th August 2011 vs Phillies
42,331   Saturday 19th May 2012 vs Orioles
41,985   Thursday 25th June 2009 vs Red Sox
41,918   Sunday 20th May 2012 vs Orioles
41,727   Sunday 21st August 2011 vs Phillies
41,530   Wednesday 24th June 2009 vs Red Sox
41,517   Tuesday 23rd June 2009 vs Red Sox
41,290   Monday 5th April 2010 vs Phillies
41,042   Saturday 2nd June 2012 vs Braves
40,907   Thursday 12th April 2012 vs Reds

There must have been a ton of comp tickets given out, there was as much demand for tickets as any game this team has played.  Great game for those lucky enough to have been there.

It will be close to that attendance number today, there are less than a hundred seats listed on stubhub and the cheapest seats from the team are $76.

Even given that this is a Sunday afternoon with the usual kid-related promos (Ryan Zimmerman kids' jersey to first 10,000 under-12's today), that is excellent. Having gorgeous weather doesn't hurt matters either - it should be pretty much the same today as yesterday except with 20-30% chsnce of rain.

In fact yesterday would have been absolute perfection if it hadn't been for the Metro track work (took me fully an hour and a half to get to the ballpark from South Arlington - left my place a bit after 14.30 and didn't get to the 300 level till Nats player intros - getting home though was less time-consuming).
