Personally, I don't care.  What I do care about is getting Ecks as far from Harper as possible.

I know we have our own separate thread (the Bryce man-crush thread) or whatever, but I really felt like this article by Kilgore deserves it's own thread. It is an outstanding article that gives me a new appreciation for Bryce, and what he means to this city, and how he has embraced the Nationals.

About three weeks ago, Harper talked to teammate Ryan Zimmerman about playing in the same city for the duration of his career. Zimmerman, who grew up in Virginia, signed a contract extension this offseason that ensures he will stay in Washington through at least 2019. Harper told him he wanted the same thing in his career.

“You look at Cal Ripken. You look at Derek Jeter. You look at all the greats that played for one team their whole career,” Harper said last weekend, sitting in the dugout at Camden Yards in Baltimore. “I want to be like that. I’ve always wanted to be like that. I’ve always wanted to play with that same team.”

I believe him.  I think Harper has really taken to his teammates here and it seems they have really taken to him too.  I think he intends to stay here because he intends to be one of the all-time greats he looked up to growing up.  And those guys all played for one team.  The Nationals are built to win for a long time.  Assuming they continue to win, it's easy to see him being a career Nat.

He lists the guys he admires in the article - guys like Ripken, Jeter. Guys he wants to emulate. I have to believe he's sincere and he really wants to be here for a career. He can be a legendary figure in DC baseball.

Hey, I say test his loyalty. This offseason offer him 10/150 and see what he does.

That's not a real test. Boras would laugh at that and the Lerner shills would cite it as willingness to spend.

That's why it's a real test. Who's his daddy... the Nationals, or Boras?

You'd have to make it more attractive than that number for it to really be considered.

Hey houston don't you play an instrument?

Well, I don't think that's what the deal will end up being in the end. 10 years or so seems reasonable - then he'd be cashing in again at age 30 - but not the low figure.

I don't play an instrument...

MDS for mod! hammonds for mod!

i would be a great mod.  obviously i'd obey chief's rules, but i'd gut the whole first three pages of the clubhouse so it'd be tidy and clean.

no 17 "ticket help" threads or 40 "what to do about 5th starter" threads.

Sounds like a thankless job, although assigning slapfighting unicorn penalty avatars to bickering posters would have its appeal.

Apparently Bryce lives in Pentagram City.  Bad ass.
