Baltimore and Washington are still fighting in court over what the Nationals should receive for their 2012-16 television rights from the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, which is controlled by the Orioles. At the request of the Orioles and MASN, a New York state judge last year threw out a decision by MLB's Revenue Sharing Definitions Committee that said the Orioles should receive $298 million from MASN for that five-season span. The Nationals want the matter returned to the RSDC.

"The Orioles agreed that the RSDC would set the rights fees for MASN and the Orioles every five years," Manfred said. "The Orioles have engaged in a pattern of conduct designed to avoid that agreement being effectuated.""

Reading all this MASN stuff made me realize that the rights fees are contractually reset every 5 years. We are 4 years the fight over the first 5 year reset.

What are the odds that this isn't settled before the next reset?

I think that MASN is balanced enough. It's not biased but slickly produced like Fox News or MSNBC, it's a terrible product like CNN.

Revenue sharing is surrender. Nothing less than the Nats on a telly network completely independent of Angelos will suffice.

If that were to happen, it would probably be a significant loss for us, and a pretty big win for them. I'd guess they'd be able to keep their carriage agreements with a small cut in fees if they no longer carried the Nats, so they'd probably come out ahead. Whereas, it would be a terrible time to try to sell our own rights with the wheels quickly falling off the current RSN model.

Maybe so, but one way or another, control of the Nationals' telly rights by Peter Angelos, who has never backed off from his desire to annihilate the Nationals franchise, must be totally eliminated.

This is where I'm at.

On the field, I don't really care about the Orioles all that much. Off? Can't stand them. It's not that the Orioles dream a revenue agreement that makes them rich and screws us, they dream of a series of outcomes and events that forces the Nationals to close shop and relocate. They want the dissolution of our franchise. From a purely business perspective, this is not some battle on the margins. This is a life and death struggle.

The Nationals payroll in my opinion is enough to support a winner. I didn't even really care about the MASN struggle until I realized that this was one way the Orioles were trying to end this franchise.

Angelos feels confident that DC will embrace his birds as their team. I'll take up bowling before that happens. But of course there are some here who will run back to opacy wearing their orange and black (and some of them never stopped doing so as some posters here have demonstrated).

I would think it would be a huge loss for them because it would probably allow carriers to reopen negotiations and the trend has been for them to play hardball especially where no one actually watches - absent the nats, I'm guessing any carrier south of dc may just argue that, mlb's map aside, they no longer have any reason to carry masn

I'd like to have our own network and re-coup the money "the frog" has screwed us out of so far. Angelos and the Oreos are like NoVa and the rest of VA. NoVa pays huge amounts in taxes that go towards 4 lane highways in Beford. Take the Nats out of the MASN equation and enjoy watching the Oreos rot on the vine.

Boycott Baltimore.

The traffic down in Fredsburg is worse than closer in NOVA. Maybe he should get a job in Richmond.
