you mean the Pujols plan?

I think the Cards could simply not even come close to the dollars that Pujols wanted and knew he could get, hometown discount or not.

I think that he would have taken the Cards final offer if it had been made 2 years ago.  They insisted on more of a discount than that.  Hey, they won an extra world series that way by keeping him around instead of trading him when he would not extend.  If that happens in 2013 with RZ, then great.

You are probably right, I guess. Timing is everything. But when it comes to failed negotiations, hindsight is always 20-20.

I also think a lot of it was that he went to a place where he could DH at the end of his career

we're not worthy

freak you read the res of my post. I'm busier with work and family so I admit to being woefuolly uninformed. I used to have a much less structured schedule which allowed me a lot more time for sports reading. Besideds, isn't staing up to date oln sports kind of part of your job? Therefore you have a real job and are informed. Clearly not talking about you.

All I'm saying is I don't consider myself any sort of expert and my focus has changed. Its not a comment on anyone else.

Only hammonds has a payroll minimum and wants crapastic players like Vlad Guerrero. I'm agreeing with you that few people's minds are that simplistic.

:lmao:

i never said the NATS should go out and get vlad.

and payroll minimum?  well they should be at least 90 million, not at the 60+ they are at right now.

YOU ARE SO DENSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I desperately need sportsfan's opinion on the titular question of this thread now that RZ is over 25 years of age.

Dave Cameron in a Fangraphs chat:

"I'm guessing he'd rather prove he's healthy before negotiating coming off a down year. But, he's going to get paid. I'd guess somewhere between 7/140 and 8/160."

Lock him up to 10 year deal pronto.

We'd get a pretty silly package in a trade though. JK

That's what I'm thinking this may be. I want to see both, but they may know they aren't getting Fielder for reasons we don't and will extend Zim instead.

Of course we won't know if this is the case until Fielder signs, but either way, this extension needs to happen.

Well, if it had to be a choice, I'd take Zim over Fielder.
But if it did not have to be a choice... I'd take both.

Either way, 4evr's right, this needs to happen.

I'll take it, either extends this team's window. I want fielder, but he's a luxury, making sure we have an elite power bat at at least one corner going forward is much more important

This means no Fielder. Extension to RZ = Lerners get free pass
