I watched Crazy Rich Asians this afternoon and enjoyed it a lot more than I anticipated.

Missus got me a copy of "Dogma".     I was tellin' her about it and she decided I needed my own copy.

2/5

A Detroit teenager becomes the FBI's youngest informant. By 17, he becomes one of the biggest cocaine kingpins in Detroit.

Right off the bat, I can say Matthew McConaughey was the best thing about the movie. The rest took a back seat. The plot was thin and the supporting roles were OK. Interesting cameos from Brian Tyree Henry, Paper Boi in "Atlanta," and Danny Brown, a Detroit-based rapper.

If you're a McConaughey fan, you will enjoy it. Otherwise, this is a solid pass.

Just watched "Mandy" upon a friend's recommendation.  It was damn awful and a complete waste of two hours.

Saw First Man tonight at the Udvar-Hazy center on the giant IMAX screen.  I can't recommend this movie strongly enough, especially in that theater, easily in my top ten of greatest films I've ever seen, and the closest I'll ever get to actually walking on the moon.

I'm seeing First Man at the Air and Space museum tonight. Your post has me even more excited.

I really liked it: 4/5.

The use of sound to enhance the stressful scenes reminded me of "Dunkirk."  My heart raced more times than I can count. I loved "The Right Stuff," and this was a good companion movie.

Everyone should see this in IMAX. The Air and Space Museum is playing this for a little bit longer. Don't sleep on it.

agreed.  we've seen Dunkirk and Interstellar in that theater, I'm not sure anything will ever top Interstellar.

In terms of space movies, First Man gets sort of close.

Interstellar trumps First Man on story and visuals, but First Man delivers that same sense of galatic stress and wonder.

True, the scene after the moon landing is just absolutely spectacular, it's difficult to find words to describe it.

How about when Neil and another astronaut tried to dock with the Agena target vehicle during the Gemini 8 mission but ended up spinning and spinning and spinning. What a remarkable scene.

one more spoiler :)

I read that Armstrong didn't actually ride in the simulator shown in the movie (the one that turned every which way) and that NASA abandoned the test judging the scenario to not be realistic.  It ended up that Armstrong was the only astronaut to actually experience the scenario in real-life aboard Gemini 8.  The portrayal of him barely surviving was completely accurate

That's interesting! I can't imagine how difficult staying focused was for Armstrong as Gemini kept spinning and spinning. I'm sure the ordeal was absolutely terrifying.

Did you know Stanley Kubrick was the brains behind the real moon landing movie? He shot, directed and edited it.

I see an Oscar nomination in Rami Malek's future. The boy's hitting his stride, especially after nabbing an Emmy for Mr. Robot.
