Just saw Godzilla. It was quite good.
I personally like that Godzilla does not show up for a long time. One does not see slow builds like that much anymore, and I think it was quite effective and it made everything he did all the more awesome. The characters were bland as hell, but I didn't mind. Unlike Pacific Rim, this movie understands that the characters are one-dimensional and does not stop the plot to spend time with them, which is good. Thankfully, we got a fun performance from Bryan Cranston at the start of the movie to keep it entertaining before the monsters are revealed. I was a bit disappointed that he died so early, but I kind of expected it. Despite how much he shows up in the trailers and commercials, he was not listed as one of the stars, so I anticipated that he was not going to be in it much and that they were just trying to get Breaking Bad fans in the seats. It did do a disservice to Aaron Taylor-Johnson though, because while he did a good job despite looking distressingly similar to Tobey Maguire, he was having to be the lead after thirty-plus minutes of Bryan Cranston being the lead, and that is a hard act to follow. Godzilla's design was great and the ending fight was awesome. My only real issues with it are admittedly just nitpicks that aren't worth mentioning.
So go see it.
