Gamechanger Marquis lands in San Diego.  About as far from NY as possible, but good for him.  He's a good guy and I hope he does well there.

I think the high point of 2011 was that Lidge/Gomes walk-off plunking

Former ex-Nat Bray returns to DC.  Could help out this year in the bullpen if Michael Gonzalez doesn't come back or comes back and is terrible.

2/$8 million for Burnett.

He needs to fire his agent.  Randy Choate got 3/$7.5, Burnett should have been able to get 3/12-15M

Absolutely. Burnett's one of the best relievers in baseball. He's certainly got a better track record than Randy Choate.

Apparently:

One reason Sean Burnett's price came down to 2 years, $8 million is that he underwent surgery to remove a bone spur after season. #Angels

Don't know if that's significant justification...

Gas Can Gaudin signed a minor league deal with San Francisco. If he makes the Giants major league team, he'll be on his ninth team in ten years, and he doesn't turn thirty until March. Octavio Dotel's record for most teams played for may be in jeopardy in a few years.

Gas Canrahan traded to the Red Sox for 2 minor leaguers, Jerry Sands and Stolmy Pimental.  Sands was a 1b/OF picked up from the Dodgers in the Nick Punto trade that got so much attention last August.  Pimental is a fallen starting prospect who had a good year or two in Salem, I think.

the Red Sox are looking a lot like the Bowden-era Nationals, placing bets on guys on the downsides of the careers and reclamation projects.  Hanrahan's FB velocity was off, and his walk rate was up.  Unless they can get him to drop 20lbs or more he could be another Lackey.

Loss in velocity or maybe 2011 was an outlier. 2012 was same velo as 2010.

2011 is the anomaly... Not the norm.

Red Sox didn't give up much for him - Sands looks like a AAAA type right now and the pitcher they got looks like a stalled prospect.  Maybe Sands puts it together but it doesn't even look like the Pirates have room for him unless they trade Jones.

Was coming to post the Hanrahan deal, but got beaten to the proverbial punch. I've always been surprised of the moderate success he's had since leaving, being fairly well regarded in Pittsburgh. I mean damn, he made $4.1 million last year as a reliever, something I never expected. Now off to the Red Sox as an insurance closer, and all the national bandwagon fans attention that entails. Good for him, I always thought he was a decent enough guy, glad to see him making it big time.

But I see he still had 50 unintentional BBs in 128.1 IP last season, so looks like he's remained the gas can we all knew and loved/hated. It'll be interesting to see how he handles the transition to the AL and the rather significant talent differential between NL Central and AL East. Relatively sucky division versus... well, the AL East.
