The trades are all speculation, no one knows what happened. Beltran is a cancer, it's well documented. Gio is better than Buerhle and Oswalt, I will avatar bet on that. Reyes is a good point but they are for some reason dedicated to Desmond. I would have like to have had Reyes.

you asked who. I said who.

simple as that.

Players that I would have liked the Nats to acquire (Pay Attention, PANatsfan):

Prince Fielder
Roy Oswalt
Mark Beurhle
Jose Reyes
BJ Upton (trade)
Michael Bourn (trade)
Carlos Beltran (for LF)

now you can stop asking "Waaaaaah who did you want them to sign?"

Jmad pwning souls like usual.

This offense sucks.  Bottom 10 in baseball.

Now we can have an intelligent discussion, if you like, since you answered my question.

What you were saying wasn't really a discussion. It was just you labeling players.

Likely under.
Over/under on 88 wins?

Dude you're not fooling anyone. You also KNOW that the Lerners are cheap. You just refuse to acknowledge it.

And more JZ + Wang, and a better bench, and a healthy LaRoche...

But just imagined if they added a quality CFer or big bat to the mix..

no. Offense is bad as is, and someone is going to regress. Don't know who, but it is bound to happen.

there will be a lot of 1-0 and 2-1 games. and we won't win most of them.

Keeping my expectations about the same as they were last year.

They're certainly an upgrade but it's not like Marquis and Livan sucked.  Good for a few more wins despite the same crappy defense and offense.

What happens if we don't clean up in sloppy September this year, might not match the 80 win total we over achieved last year.

I don't care if they are or not. I like the Nats. I want to talk about baseball not money. I'm working on my taxes right now, that's enough money talk for me for a long time.

It goes back to all the names from the past, not just this offseason.

I'm so sick of LANC making excuses for the Lerners when they pass/fail to sign a DA.  "Oh we get to save money for the right FA.".  And its never the right time.

don't worry, there are a bunch of great center fielders.available.for.them.not.to sign next year

So what the excuse when we don't sign a CF next year? I'm betting its gonna be something like

"Oh Bourn is turning 30. All of his game is speed base so he wasn't worth getting"
"Upton wasn't the prototypical leadoff guy we needed. It's a good thing that we didn't spend that much to get him"
"Next year was the year we were gonna contend anyway so it's okay."
"If we had signed (insert player here) we couldn't extend (insert play w/ five years left here) w/o going over 100 million. That would hamstring the franchise!"

I hope it's "Brian Goodwin impressed us so much during his September call-up that we think he has a legitimate chance to win the starting job in 2013"

I honestly wanted a place holder like Ross or Crisp until Goodwin is ready but the plan appears to be to role with Cameron smh

Who is on the improved bench? Flores, Lombo, DeRosa, Cameron?

If DeRosa can stay healthy then yeah but he hasn't been healthy for 3 years. I don't see how an often injured DeRosa is any better then Hairston Jr. or Nix.
