I think Boras would be willing to have Fielder go into spring training without a contract and see what develops rather than "lose" to the Nationals.

Kind of odd that there hasn't been any real news on him recently.

Just a hunch and a wild guess: by the end of tomorrow Fielder signs with a team that isn't Texas or Washington.  7/$160

I think there have been no fewer than 28 hunches posted about when this cat will sign.  Harold Camping is more accurate than that. When it happens it'll happen.

My concerns this morning with the downstream impact of the Fielder signing reach a bit beyond the 25 man roster; it has been well established that certain members of the Nats Pack have watched their salaries grow larger than many of the players, which means that as a cost savings move the old man may feel compelled to cut Clint and Terrance, leaving the team in the unenviable position of having only female cheerleaders available on gamedays to whip up fan support.

Clint sucks, addition by subtraction.

My point???  I think that it is pretty clear that for all of those singing to the tune of Sign Fielder, there is no thought of the consequences of such an action.  Are we really prepared to say goodbye to Morse, Zimmerman, Clint, Terrance, and who knows who else?

Prince could be final piece for Nationals  By Hal Bodley | MLB.com Columnist

""I think our ballclub is one or two players away from being a heck of a ball team," said Nats manager Davey Johnson.

Johnson, the ideal skipper for this young team, said he's keeping an open mind about Harper, "but I'd love to see someone who could sting the ball from the left side and make the ballclub. It will be an interesting spring."

Footnote: Fielder bats from the left side, has stung the ball on occasion -- as attested by his 230 home runs and 656 RBIs after just seven seasons.

Just a thought."

Well, they're signing me for nothing.  Clint and Terrance are now expendable that I'm on board.
