It is a slow news day when it is news that the Nats don't want to give Fielder the same contract Pujols got. Is tomorrow's story about how Fielder isn't as valuable a player as Joey Votto, A-Gon, or Miguel Cabrera?

NO! Don't touch Zimm!!!

You don't move a top 10 all-time defensive 3B to a new spot.

I can't believe moving Zim is even being considered. Foolishness. If the thought wasn't so pathetic I'd be laughing.

There's really no way to prove that Fielder's gonna sign elsewhere until he finally signs on the dotted line.

I'm gonna take the reports with a grain of salt until there's an official announcement, rather than what a dozen "reporters" regurgitate prematurely.

Other blogs are posting the radio interview of Lorbleson supporting his chicken scratch.  I think we are all pretty PO'ed that this is taking so long, but are willing to wait until "Big Ego from Little Japan" is signed by the Senat...... wait, I mean Rangers.  I want the big guy in the District on the Nats, and I'd hate to lose last minute to a team like LA and settle for an excuse like "he doesn't fit our team mold", or "SECOND BEST OFFER!  YEA!".

Ok guys. Stop, collaborate and listen.

Is he worth as much as any of those guys? Maybe Votto. Definitely not Adrian Gonzalez or Miguel Cabrera.

Is he worth more than Josh Hamilton or any of the other outstanding 2013 prospects that would actually be a fit with this team?  That's my concern.  Fielder is only on the Nats radar because there were so few prime free agents to even look at this year.  The Nats only really wanted one free agent this off-season, and they lost him.  Fielder was never considered a fit, and is only in the discussion now because no other team has been willing to give Boras what he wants.

Sure, if they can get him to cave to a shorter term deal, they should jump, but otherwise don't sweat it.  Next year's class is mind-boggingly deep with pitchers and outfielders.  It will be interesting because I don't think there are enough deep-pocketed teams to even absorb all the big contracts next year's class will be looking for.  The Nats aren't going to the World Series this year anyway, but next year could be special.  A full 2013 season of Strasburg and Harper plus another year of development for JZimm, Ramos, Espinosa, Marrero, Flores... perhaps a call-up for Rendon... Next year they could be not just good, but deep, and well-positioned to move Morse to first and add a free agent outfielder like Hamilton, Bourn, Ethier, or Victorino; and why not dream -- maybe even another front line starter if things don't work out with Wang.

Copy and paste next offseason regarding the 2014 class?

When you have a star the quality of Fielder fall in your lap, you don't pass and wait till next year.

As for fit?!? You don't think a .900+ OPS is something that fits the Nats?!

This is Ted Lerner asking fans to come to the stadium and put money in his coffers now in exchange for a winning team in 20**.

Yep, every year is an opportunity for a new excuse for not being ready to step up and sign the type of players that will make us a playoff contender.  Right now with all breaks we're an 85 win also ran.  More likely we have our usual allotment of injuries and flops leading to a step backwards.

Are you suggesting we're wrong... and should wait another year for a mythical FA to hopefully, maybe, fingers crossed, sign?
