That's been a rumour for a very long time, hasn't it?

That's as much a rumor as the Titanic sinking on its maiden voyage.

I think she made some rather salient points in that intro.

I think overall his durability is not a major question.

I love Zim but he's missed 50+ games in 2 out of the last 4 years.  You have to question the durability of a guy who does that.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/01/heyman-on-rizzo-rangers-webb-jackson.html

Rangers have a ton of guys that they need to extend.  They probably don't have the cash for Fielder if they sign Darvish for $60+ mil.  We'd still have to outbid Texas for him to come here, but I think we can outbid them relatively easily given their commitments and likely upcoming commitments.  We're kind of in the same situation with upcoming extensions, but they already have some WS showings in their back pocket.

------
The Rangers would like to lock Mike Napoli, Josh Hamilton, Mike Adams and Colby Lewis to extensions if possible, according to Heyman. Ian Kinsler and Derek Holland are among the Rangers’ other extension candidates.

Plus their owners will actually put the money forward to re-sign their talent, something the Nats likely won't do.

Worked out well for getting them Cliff.  I think people feel to realize that the Rangers are good.  Nobody cared about them 5 years ago.

Part of the problem with them not signing Lee was dissension in the ownership group itself.  That is part of why Greenberg was forced out in March.  There were rumors that the GM John Daniels was very unhappy with how Greenberg inserted himself in the negotiations.

Their new TV deal doesn't kick in until after the 2014 season which will mean an additional 75-80 million per season.  I think they'll do fine in terms of the owners spending money.  Their owners have been in charge a little over a year.   Ours unfortunately have a track record that most of us are hoping will change.

As per Hot Stove on MLB network today, Heyman still thinks we are the favorite and believes Darvish will sign before the 18th.  It seems like he wants to play in Texas, so does his agent and so does Texas.  That would take the Rangers out of the Fielder sweepstakes and if our biggest competitor is the M's then the Lerners need to spend and move some players around.

I'm not buying that the Rangers deal has a major impact on the Fielder negotiations, Boras loses more leverage by waiting than he gains by adding another bidder into the mix.

Agree 100%.

What happens the moment Darvish signs?  It's basically us, the already stretched Brewers, the even more stretched Dodgers, and the turrible O's and M's.  We could offer a 4 year deal and probably still be the most attractive landing spot.

The Dodgers are going to sign that TV deal and get the money machine rolling.

I'm not picking up on it :(

It's forum joke dating back to the Mark Teixeira farce. Some dude from Maine came on here claiming he had reliable sources that the Nats were going to land Teixeira and it turned out he was just looking for people to go to his blog.   :mg:
