:lmao:

I never told people how to be a better fan, except when certain "Nats fans" were crowing about selling tickets to Philthies fans so they can sabotage the Take Back the Park campaign. Those people need to be arrested for high treason and hung from the ledge on the Red Loft.  :mg:

The Nationals Fan Police will be under cover that weekend gathering intel from Philthies fan about where they got their tickets. We will root you out, you traitors.

Nah, it's all in fun, at least on my side. The only people who take it seriously are the thin-skinned ones who put people on ignore. ;)

Why do you keep making this all about you? Can't you accept the simple fact what works for you and your children might not work for someone else and their children?

The absolute worst thing about being a parent are those "perfect parents" always telling you how they are a much better parent than you for whatever reason. I think it's kind of childish, ironically.

You're the one who brought up the anecdote regarding kids with disabilities.  I just figured one good anecdote deserved another.

But if you would like to continue to insist that the Girl Scouts will somehow suffer by missing a prep-day for SoLs then knock yourself out.  I guess you don't have as high an opinion on the Girl Scouts as I do.

And yes, I still think parents who wouldn't pull their kids out of school for an OCCASIONAL ball game are LAME.  Just keep sending them to school and forget making good memories with them.  They'll talk all about it in therapy.  :lmao:

Pretty much required for all students, it's a key metric for evaluating schools and also informs decisions on where students are assigned in the upcoming year.  Rightly or wrongly, much of the school year is geared towards the SOL's.

I agree with those who criticize the choice of day, for sure the GSA would not advocate pulling kids out of school for a game so it would have to have been a team decision, and probably done in blissful ignorance of the local school calendars.

Terp, I'm not saying this is the ideal situation or that the PR office didn't make a gaffe; I'm just saying "what's the big freakin' deal" of pulling kids out of one day of school?

The test itself?  Yeah, probably not a good idea, but a practice day?  And the Girl Scouts?

Know your audience is all I'm saying.

Back to baseball...

The worst part about being a fan is being told how to be a fan by other people.

Hate that.

Lot of that going around lately.  :?

Nah. The SOLs don't count for a kid's grade but are just a measuring stick for how they are progressing in comparison with other kids around their state. More importantly, teachers and schools are graded/ranked/rated/funded on how their students perform. So it's important for the students, but it's more important for the teachers and their schools.

I'm not an expert on this but in the spirit of the internet, that does not stop me from talking out my @$$ about it. :mg:

Sure, if you don't care about how your kid's teachers are evaluated or how your school system is funded, go ahead.

We're talking about the Girl Scouts here.  These aren't kids getting into routine trouble and skipping school all the time.

You're either trolling, Nats320 or a giant dope.

FWIW, we're taking NY version of the SoLs this week.  Last week was practice and I pulled my kid out of school on one of the days to allow him to recover from a hard week of tech rehearsals and opening night.  He missed a full three hours of preparation.

I guess that makes me a bad father, him a stupid kid and the both of us insensitive to his teacher and the school as a whole.

How in the world did you get there from what I said about how important SOLs are to teachers and the school system. Either you're trolling, Nats 320 or you're a giant dope.

That is the primary week for the tests, though the days vary by school and subject I believe.  An ordinary school day?  No problem.

An exceptional student may not be offered the opportunity to attend a different school with more accelerated programs.  The SOL results, combined with success in the classroom, are what determines who gets the invitation.

In our case, both our kids made the cut and were offered but we declined with both, just wasn't right for us.

Wow. You actually realize that each kid is an individual and what's right for one may not be right for the other. As opposed to "you're a jerk if you never pull your kid out of school for a baseball game."

I used to pull out my older kid (now in colleage) for OD every year. My younger one (HS sophomore) has never missed a day for baseball because he can't miss a single day of instruction. It takes him about a week to make it up due to some LD issues he has.

To each his own.
