June 7 is only a school night in Virginia.

Yeah, but where probably 75% of the fanbase, and that's being pessimistic, come from. No way around it, this is stupidity stupidity its highest form. A game go honoring a kids organization on a school day? One of the rare, and last, day games during the work week? One of the last before school let's out? Why the hell not on a Sundays when they ALWAYS do kids events? There's no logic or sanity to this decision, it just shows how moronic the marketing department that still can't get my RCR card out is.

I get it.  You hate the marketing department.  But who among you would not pull your kids out of ONE freakING DAY OF SCHOOL for this sort of thing?

Parents who wouldn't allow a kid to miss a day of school for a ball game are jerkS.

Don't you think you're being a tad judgmental?

Kids who struggle in school for various reasons (including learning disabilities) can ill afford to miss a day of instruction. I would explain further but it seems like you have your mind all made up so I'm saving the key strokes.

I have two kids in grade school, each with their own learning disability (Aspergers for one and ADD for the other).  If they miss a good amount of vital instruction they will struggle.  However, I would fail as a father for not creating lasting childhood memories by occassionally pulling my kids out of school for such events.

Further, this is the GSA - I hardly think this will lead to rampant truancy to attend day games at ballparks.

If it were February, sure, but what's probably the last week of school?  No.

Yep, teachers generally make you watch movies all day long during that last week.

We all make choices as parents so I try not to judge. That is all.

Natitude is waiting on pins and needles - from a rained-out Sunday afternoon game to a Tuesday nite 10:00 p.m. game - to begin.

Considering the public education system is kind of a joke, I don't see why they would run that late into the summer.

Granted, my summers as a kid in private school usually didn't end until early to middle June, it seems weird now that school ends in May for most kids now. Keeping kids that late into June should be considered cruel and unusual punishment. Its not like they are learning anything. They are all thinking about going to the beach, the ball games, and the pool. It doesn't make sense to go that late into the year anymore. I rather start in late august and have memorial day weekend as the start to my summer break.

When I was in high school, the last day of school was basically the 17th of May. Exams were the week after. Then the rest was just waiting/graduation practice. Ultimately I graduated June 6th but that was just due to overextending the graduation process.

They are administering the Standards of Learning tests that week in Fairfax County.

I've pulled my kids out of school for opening day of our single-A team.  Both kids don't seem to have any acedemic issues.

Pretty much required for all students, it's a key metric for evaluating schools and also informs decisions on where students are assigned in the upcoming year.  Rightly or wrongly, much of the school year is geared towards the SOL's.

I agree with those who criticize the choice of day, for sure the GSA would not advocate pulling kids out of school for a game so it would have to have been a team decision, and probably done in blissful ignorance of the local school calendars.

Why do you keep making this all about you? Can't you accept the simple fact what works for you and your children might not work for someone else and their children?

The absolute worst thing about being a parent are those "perfect parents" always telling you how they are a much better parent than you for whatever reason. I think it's kind of childish, ironically.

I will give you this. They slack off a bit AFTER the SOLs. But until then they are working pretty hard.
