Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 79th win, each season:

2005 - 26th September (157th match of season)
2011 - 26th September (159th match of season)
[2007 - finished 73-89]
[2006 - finished 71-91]
[2010 - finished 69-93]
[2008 - finished 59-102]
[2009 - finished 59-103]

---

That had to have been the deadest ballpark 'ambience' I've ever heard on a radio broadcast, even by the exalted standards of the NL's attendance laggards...how they could have the effrontery to announce an attendance of 21,058 is beyond me (ironically the '05 Overachievers' 79th win was also at Florida, in front of an announced crowd of 11,467)...their STH/corporate ticket base isn't that big is it?

attendance is based on tickets sold, not on turnstile counts.

Good HRod?

Great Espinosa behind mediocre H-Rod tonight.

I know that...I'm a Mystics fan - I know all about dodgy attendance figures.

But who bought them? That franchise simply cannot have 20,000 season ticket holders...and earlier in the season there were several fixtures (including two on our first visit down there) that drew less than 11k. They must be selling super-deep-discount tickets that people end up not using...or handing out lots of freebies that they include in their attendance totals (does MLB allow this?)...or something...how else does one explain what must have been a no-show rate of over 90%?

Whatever the explanation...it was downright dead out there...Slowes and Jageler sounded like they were being taped in an empty room.

we'll agree to disagree, i certainly don't have a problem with Stammen.

Can he be a long reliever for us, do you think he is better in the role than Gorzo?

Hey Mate, I have been suggesting both of them ( a lefty and a righty)

Wilson Ramos, that is. Pedro Ramos (usually called "Pete") was fast.

Used to pinch run and was one of the fastest on the team.

proving again why pitcher wins is the most useless stat in baseball

But, I read earlier in this thread that Davey should manage such as to favor certain pitchers over others to get the  :w:

The announced attendance figures are done in accordance with standard industry practice and are subject to audit review, so I think we're pretty safe in assuming that the figures are reported consistent with those of other teams.  And yes, there was a pretty horrific no-show rate. :?

I forget if it was Bob or FP but they were trying to say on the broadcast last night that Nats Park numbers reflected actual attendance.  Yeah, okay

If anything, there seemed to have been times earlier this season when Nats home attendance was undercounted, when we were getting school groups in the 400's (uncounted freebies?).

He can be forgiven.   He was tracking the Cardinals' game.

PATHETIC attendance at BlO's stadium - not even Red Sux fans are there.

Announced attendance was 21,786, their lowest for a Red Sox visit since April (when weather no doubt played a role - Nats Park saw some pretty frosty matchdays that month). Looking back over the past few seasons though it seems the Bosox aren't always the consistent draw that the Yankees normally are...last season the Woes had a mid-week series against Boston just before Labour Day weekend and two of the three matches drew less than 20k.

When a team hasn't had a .500 or better season in the present century, it's not hard to find other things to do besides paying major-league prices to watch minor league ball - and even if cheap tickets are available it isn't hard to find other things to do besides fighting traffic, paying parking fees and the like to watch that baseball.

(Worst-ever attendance at Camden Yards was 9,129 for a visit by the Rays on Monday 12th April 2010; Nats Park's worst was 10,999 on Monday 20th September of that same year vs Astros.)

I can tell you that CCSP used to do at least one bus trip for the Red Sox each visit.  This year, I think they did one trip to OPACY for the sox back in late May.  They do not get the NoVa crowd going up like they used to.  OPACY is a destination weekend for Sox fans from up north, but now that school has started, early in the week nights, this does not suggest much of a crowd.  Also, let's face it, the way the Sox are playing, a lot of die hards are wretching.  Folks who have been through collapses before are more bitter than those going through their first disappointment.

The Orioles should get Mike Torrez to throw out the first pitch.

They both (but especially Bob)  seem to dance around that question and use a phrase like "announced attendance."  Code-word for tickets, not real people.
